FM 2874 is the old alignment of SH 24. After this became FM 2874, SH 24 moved, and the former alignment became SH 224.

Anyway, what is interesting is that there is long section of this roadway that is abandoned, with severely damaged bridges.
This section appears to have been abandoned quite a while.

Since this is an old alignment, and is redundant to SH 224 (FMR SH 24), there is no need to spend the money to repair it.

It's interesting that the remaining stub ends, especially the shorter one, remain on the state highway system.
It would be logical to turn the stub ends over to the county, and extend FM 512 over the former FM 2874 into Commerce.

Use Streetveiw to quickly locate the closed section by the lack of blue lines on the road:

Also, look at this very old bridge on the open portion, that appears to not be state constructed:

Road Hog

Not the boomingest part of North Texas, to be sure. Commerce has lost a third of its population since 2000, and it's home to a good-sized university.
