Quote from: JayhawkCO on May 09, 2024, 10:56:07 AMI-405 in Washington works pretty well for avoiding I-5 downtown.

It really doesn't, since often an end-to-end trip takes longer than just staying on I-5, especially if you have the express lanes in your direction. The section between Renton and Bellevue is almost always congested in both directions, whereas I-5 quickly clears up leaving the downtown merge zone.

It must have changed dramatically since when I lived there. I would run into traffic all the way from Lynnwood to Sea-Tac on I-5 whereas I-405 only bunched up between WA520 and I-90.

How long ago was that?

My typical afternoon drive into downtown is smooth until 145th or so, when the backup from the lost Northgate lane really forms. From there, it's pretty much bumper to bumper on I-5 (or I opt for the train, which is usually faster).

Granted, about 15 years ago.

Also, what about cabins and other vacation rentals people have that they use during the summer but very little in the winter? They have no intention to cease using these properties even if some (at least those who don't ice fish or snowmobile) are not actively using them during the winter.

Quote from: hotdogPi on May 08, 2024, 04:07:06 PMWould this be a good state law to fix the housing market, or is it kernals-style bad?

If a property is not used for at least 60 days of a calendar year, it immediately goes up for auction on January 1. ("Used" includes things like Airbnb as long as there's a customer.)

How do you establish whether it's been used?  Send the Housing Police around to every house every week and see if it looks vacant?

Remember the person who responded to posts with  :colorful:  :colorful:  :colorful:  :colorful:  :colorful:  :colorful: ?

I think that was the now-banned user "snowc." If he hadn't been banned, I might have responded to this thread with, "Whatever one(s) snowc is overusing at the moment."

snowc isn't banned. At least, not by us.

That's interesting. For some reason I thought he was (and no, I'm not confusing him with tolbs17). Either way, he hasn't posted in almost two years. Maybe his parents took away his Internet access like he said they were threatening to do.

I recall him saying something about stepping away for a while. I'm not sure if there's some underlying cause. All I know is that he definitely wasn't banned.

Quote from: roadman65 on May 06, 2024, 07:42:59 PMWade Avenue was originally I-40 before it got extended eastward. Although I-440 didn't exist then, it ended at US 1/64 then.

Why I bring this up is the same scenario with I-74 near Greensboro with part of an interstate being downgraded so it can be realigned to continue before its terminus.

I agree though, Wade Avenue should be numbered instead of having freeway with a non freeway street name. Even if it's an NC designation, it's an improvement.

Although Wade Ave might have been signed as Temp 40 or TO 40 or something, it has never been in the interstate system.  See the 1972 Wake County map which clearly shows Wade Ave as FAP and the existing and proposed I-40 as FAI.

Per gribblenation it also had at-grade accesses.  Historicaerials confirms 2 accesses up through the mid-1990s.

There is also no route change document at the NCDOT site changing it to SR 1728.

Quote from: SEWIGuy on May 09, 2024, 10:10:02 AMAs for the Royals, where would they go? I don't know how many new markets actually exist for baseball these days.

The Carolinas (and by extension Norfolk area) are entirely unrepresented.

Nashville is often mentioned as well. Have they shown any interest in building a stadium to bringing in a team?  Because this seems to be where this always breaks down.
IIRC, the Nationals, Orioles and Braves are the three closest MLB teams to the Carolinas. And as for Nashville, the White Sox have been linked to possibly moving there (but then again, they've been rumored to leave Chicago at some point in the last several decades; you may think the new ballpark would've ended those rumors permanently, but apparently it's no longer so). The Titans and Predators are the two big tickets in town, so any MLB team who plays there, whether relocated or expansion, would struggle against those two teams.
