From your current residence, what is the closest stretch of road you have NOT clinched in each of the following categories:

Interstate Highway
US Highway
State highway

For me:
Interstate: I-69 between I-64 and IN 68, 98 miles away
US Highway: US 421 between IN 56 and IN 62, 45 miles away
State Highway: KY 2054 between Alt US 60 and KY 1931, 15 miles away
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

Interstate: I-190 MA
US Highway: US 20 east of Lee
State Highway: MA 2 east of MA 43

That's not very interesting and a result of Albany being so close to the state border, so I tried it with past locations:
Rome, NY:
-Interstate: I-80 west of I-380*
-US Highway: US 7 between US 4 and VT 22A
-State Highway: NY 41 southeast of Skaneateles

Potsdam, NY:
-Interstate: I-93 between Boston and Manchester
-US Highway: US 7 between US 4 and VT 22A
-"State" Highway: QC 132 west of A-15

Rochester, NY:
-Interstate: I-80 west of US 15 (future I-99 is closer)*
-US Highway: US 20A west of NY 246*
-State Highway: NY 238 southeast of Attica*

Sidney, NY:
-Interstate: I-80 west of I-380*
-US Highway: US 11 south of New Milford
-State Highway: NY 10 between NY 8 and Walton*

*Will change by end of year assuming no change in clinching plans

I'm northeast of Baltimore in Harford County and these are my distances, as the crow flies.

Interstate: Maryland's entire I-270, 57 miles away
U.S. Route: U.S. Route 1 between U.S. 40 in west Baltimore and MD-100 near Elkridge, 27 miles away
State Route: Maryland Route 159, 13 miles away

I only clinch interstate highways.

I-781 is the closest, 196 miles.  (Not on the frickin' way to anywhere)
I-190 between its last exit and the Canadian border, 291 miles.
I-95 from Howland to Houlton, ME, 438 miles.
I-94/I-69 from Canadian Border to M-25, 478 miles (cutting through Canada).
I-94, south of I-69, 482 miles (cutting through Canada)
I-94, south of I-696's eastern terminus, 524 miles.
Tie: I-75 south of I-96 / I-96 north/west of I-94, 532 miles.
I-75 south of I-475's southern terminus, 572 miles.
I-270 west of I-71, 585 miles.
I-270 south of I-670's eastern end, 596 miles
I-70, east of I-71, 597 miles
I-70, west if I-71, 600 miles

(Only stretches of I-70 I have left to clinch the entire interstate are east of I-71 to I-270 and west of I-71 to I-670 in Columbus)

Fun exercise.  Edited this a bunch of times since my brain isn't working today.

I-95
US 30
NJ 38

I-95 (8 miles away) I am actually kinda close on clinching.  But there's a stretch in Florida between Daytona & Ft. Lauderdale that I'm missing, and in Maine north of Portland to New Brunswick.

US 30...(6 miles away) Well, not clinching that 3,000 mile road anytime soon.

NJ 38...(17 miles away) Just a small section on its eastern end I've just never happen to drive.

roadman

From current residence (Wakefield, MA), closest non-clinched sections of road:

Interstate Highway - I-95 from Augusta ME north - 155 miles away
US Highway - US 20 from Albany NY west - 203 miles away
State Highway - MA 117 from Weston west - 28 miles away

I don't think I was clear in my instructions.  I'm looking for the closest segments of unclinched roads.  If the only parts of I-95 you haven't driven are in Maine and Florida, then your closest unclinched segment is not 8 miles away.  Same with US 30.  You live 6 miles away, but the parts you haven't driven are likely much farther away.

Ah, OK (although amazingly with US 30, not much further!!).

In that case (as the crow flies, which is probably just a little shorter than actual distance)...

I-695 around Baltimore (80 miles)

US 30 near the Philadelphia Zoo (9 miles)

NJ 38 near its eastern end with 206 (22 miles)

This feels like something I should code up in TM, not do by looking at TM maps as I'm doing.  But here's what it looks like for me.  Based in Amsterdam, New York.

I: parts of I-95 north (east) of New Haven, CT, about 165 miles away
US: US 9 south of Kingston, NY, about 90 miles away
State: NY 32 south of Glenmont, about 40 miles away

I-87 south of the Berkshire Connector. (68.5 mi)
US 20 west of NY 22. (51.5 mi)
NH 137 between US 202/NH 124 and NH 101. (33.5 mi)
Distances are as the crow flies from my location in southern Vermont to the closest point of the unclinched section of highway, rounded to the nearest half mile.

From Bakersfield:

State: CA 166
U.S.:  US 395
Interstate:  I-210

I was going to say I-15 until I realized that I never have taken I-210 from I-5 for whatever reason.  CA 166 is just a "meh" highway for the most part and I haven't really had a ton of interest.  The only part of US 395 I haven't been on is north of Spokane.

From my current residence in Delaware County, PA (southwest of Philly)
For sanity reasons, all listed distances are as the crow flies:

I-78 east of I-287 in Bedminster Twp., NJ: 62 miles

US 30 east of Berlin, NJ: 23 miles

PA 611 north of Philadelphia: 14 miles

From my former residence in Marblehead, MA:

I-295 south of RI 37 (Cranston): 60 miles

US 3 north of MA 16 (Arlington/Cambridge): 15 miles

MA 60 west of MA 99 (Malden): 10 miles
GPS does NOT equal GOD

cbeach40

Not at all actively trying to accomplish any clinching outside of Ontario, but:
State Highway - MI-136 at Port Huron/Fort Gratiot, 111 km
US Highway - US-12 in Detroit, 191 km
Interstate Highway - I-475 south of I-69 at Flint, 216 km

Within my home province, where I'm making more of an effort:
400-series: no sections remaining to clinch
King's Highway: Highway 144 north of Benny, 619 km
Secondary Highway: Highway 637 west of former highway 69, an even 500 km (weird)
and waterrrrrrr!

noelbotevera

Tough.

I-81 north of the I-78 split (73 miles)
US 30 west of the PA Turnpike (41 miles)
PA 995 south of Kaufman Road (2.5 miles)

Guess I got the closest.

From southwest of Hartford, CT:

Interstate: I-684.  The little connection from the split with SR 984J to I-287 (about 75 miles away). Longer stretch: I-87 from I-84 to US 209 (about 80 miles away).

US Route: US 7 from CT 55 to CT 341 (about 45 miles away)

State Route: CT 17 from CT 103 to the southern junction of CT 22 (about 21 miles away), CT 222 (all but a few feet) (22 miles away)
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Interstate - There may be streches of I-94 on the Detroit east side -  I can't remember if I was on all of it.  About 15 miles away.
US - some portion of US-24 in Detroit, 15 or 20 miles
State:  One of the Detroit arterials, maybe part of Grosbeck M-97 about 10 miles away.

Interstate: I-59 south of Fort Payne, AL (95 miles away, straight-line distance)
US: US 29 between South Fulton Pkwy and GA 92 near Union City (17 miles away)
State: GA 6 inside I-285 (13 miles away)

Interstates:  clinched all mileage in CA, OR, WA, NV -- so the nearest would be either of 2 sections of I-15 in Utah, between I-70 at Cove Fort and US 50 near Holden, and between US 50 near Scipio and US 6 near Spanish Fork.  Have done all of I-70/I-80/I-84 in Utah; also missing I-15 north of I-84 (all the way to I-86 at Pocatello, ID).  Most UT trips have been E-W, so the missing portions of I-15 just haven't been in the cards to date.

U.S. highways:  US 395 north of CA 36, all the way to OR 140.  Never been to Alturas; since they severed the old SP Modoc line, never had any reason in recent years to go there (taking RR pix).

CA state highways:  never traveled on CA 108 east of Twain Harte; so never had the pleasure (or grief) of Sonora Pass!  Might do so before I croak, might not.  Never know!  Also, the existing portions of CA 162 between US 101 and I-5 have gone unexplored -- again, never had any reason to go there.

For me:
Interstate Highway: I-95 at the Canadian border near Houlton ME.
US Federal Highway: Alt US 1 near Hamlin ME. US 1 near Van Buren ME for a mainline.
State Highway: ME 229 at the Canadian border near Limestone ME.

However, it will remain the same forever, as the closest one (Alt US 1) is 3,229 miles in a straight line away from me. Amending the categories to freeway, national highway and regional highway (1st and 2nd order), I miss:
Freeway (both national and regional): AP-2 East of the ARA-A1 interchange. Surprisingly, it's A-14 for the toll free category, I thought it would be the 3 miles of A-2 around Fraga that would give me a complete clinch of all toll free freeways in my home region of Aragon.
National road: N-II East of Pina.
Regional road (first order): A-125 West of Ardisa.
Regional road (second order): A-1222.

Bonus: French departmental highway: D 439, just North of the Somport tunnel.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

TheStranger

Interstate: I-580 in Nevada (I have been on approximately 60% of it)

US highway: I haven't been on all of US 101 in California yet, or on any of US 199.

State highway: Route 84 west of Route 35.  Route 131 (which I have barely been on)

The High Plains Traveler

From Pueblo CO:

I have driven all Interstate Highway mileage in the state. I have clinched end-to-end I-25 and western I-76. On i-70, you have to go east to Kingdom City MO to get to a segment I haven't driven. (Hope to fix that soon).

U.S. routes: I haven't driven the Colorado portion of U.S. 84 at all, and I'm missing pieces of several other routes (6, 36, 34, 385). All I'm missing of U.S. 40 are the annoying local street segments around Denver; I've driven the independent segments west of Empire to Utah, and east of Limon to Kansas. U.S. 24 isn't even continuous, so I'm missing one or more hanging end frontage road segments along I-70.

State: My guess is that closest one is the south end of CO-167, because I have had no reason to go to Fowler Airport.
"Tongue-tied and twisted; just an earth-bound misfit, I."

Mine are pretty pathetic given that I live up toward the northern end of Manhattan:

Interstate: Sheridan Expressway (I-895) in the Bronx
US: Broadway (US 9) between I-95 and the Broadway Bridge
State: Bergen Boulevard (NJ 63)

Mapmikey

Interstate: I-478 (282 miles away)
US Mainline: US 119 New Stanton PA (245 miles)
State Highway: MD 229 (52 miles)
