Anyone remember a ventriloquist who looked like John Denver? I think he made a couple TV appearances in the early '80s.

The only ventriloquist I remember from the 80s is Willie Tyler.

I bet you are thinking of the ventriloquist on the TV show "Soap".  That fellow is Jay Johnson.  He played the role of Chuck Campbell and thought his dummy was real.
