This has to be one of California rarely traveled US routes though but a nice tour though.

As usual, great videos from this source. Looking forward to a continuation up US 395 through Oregon (which will presumably be posted in NW). Been about 20 years since I was up there north of Alturas, but since back then I veered off onto OR 31, US 395 from there north to Pendleton would be "virgin territory" for me; be nice to check out the scenery with a click!

I loathe driving Interstate 5 through Oregon (needs another lane each way everywhere north of Ashland) so on runs from Tahoe to the Portland area my preferred route is US 395, OR 31, US 97 and US 26. From the County Route A3 cutoff around Honey Lake up to US 97 south of Bend it's several hours of wide open driving, mostly not particularly scenic but very little traffic.
A couple years ago I was coming home from a football game in Pullman WA and was on that desolate US 395 stretch from US 20 west of Burns to OR 31. As I turned on to southbound 395 I didn't see any oncoming traffic for a few miles ahead so I counted the cars coming in the opposite direction over that stretch, which is about 90 miles in length. By the time I came to the OR 31 junction I was all the way up to 17 cars. The most recent ODOT AADT numbers show 400 at the US 20 end and 260 at the south end, fewer than any part of the "Loneliest Road" US 50 in Nevada and more comparable to the numbers on US 6 between Tonopah and Ely.

A Christmas tour of US 395 by Interstate Kyle
Just signed up as a Kyle "patron"; hope this in some way prompts him to continue his trek north on US 395 (the "concluding" phrase re the Goose Lake section sounds a bit ominous). Would be nice to see some areas I haven't been privy to as of yet -- Burns, John Day, etc.
