1. I-280.  2. I-880.  3. I-680.  Past that -- as the crow flies, I-580 would take the 4th spot, but in terms of road miles, it'd be the notorious I-238!

As the crow flies:
I-294
I-290
I-88

Or for 2DIs only:
I-88
I-90
I-55

Your location currently says "East Tennessee".   :hmmm:

Cook County, Illinois, has a greater population than the 97 smallest counties of the state combined. The remaining 4 counties in the state each share a border with Cook.

EDIT: He's been in Chicago since at least 2014. Look at his earliest posts.

I-77 to the east, I-81 to the north and west, and I-40 to the south. Though if US-421 between Salem Parkway and Wilkesboro ever gets an interstate designation, that would be the closest.

The only close interstate is I-10. It's about an hour to I-215 and I-15, which are probably physically but definitely psychologically closer than I-8. This would have been much easier a couple years ago when I lived <2 miles from the I-55, I-255, and I-270 interchange.

As implied under my shield, I live right outside the triangle of expressways in my region. A little quirk with I-80 running concurrently throughout all of Indiana, but otherwise...

I-65, I-90, and I-94 are all less than ten miles from where I live (and I'm talking about the access points; I can literally see the Toll Road from where I live, since it's only two miles north of me). I-80 runs together with the latter two.

75 and 64 are the obvious first two for me, but I'd have to pinpoint my location on a map and then do one of those circle-thingys to figure out the third one. Possibilities are 71, 265, and 640.
I guess you mean a drawing compass.

The measure distance feature on Google maps did the trick for me.  I kinda did spin it around like a compass.

I haven't seen a drawing compass in eons.

Using the Google Maps tool (which I didn't know existed, looks like it's a tie for third place at 97 miles between I-71 (near the US 127 exit) and I-26 (at its beginning at US 11W.) I-640 is right at 100 miles, and I-265 is about 103 miles. As I suspected, I-75 is closer to me than I-64 by only about three miles at their closest points.

Just get out a map, tie a pencil to one end of a string and a pin to the other.  Easy concentric circle.  Shorten or lengthen the string as needed.

What are the 3 closest Interstate Highways to wherever you live? For example, mine are:

1. I 5
2. I 205 (Oregon)
3. I 405 (Oregon)

I live on a short-cut between I-880 and I-680. I-238 is third. I-580, of course, must be close behind then I-280 close behind that.

Really?  Those are the two items you picked to joke about?  I'm guessing that more people have maps and pencils in their house than have a ball of string.   ;-)

I've moved around a bit over the past twenty or so years, including Arizona, California (hence the 101 shield), France, Illinois and Tennessee. Despite these travels, my mental home base, if you will, has always remained in Chicago, or at least the suburban part of it where I grew up. For the record, since my twenties, I have only actually lived in the Chicago area from late 2012 to mid 2016.
Interstates clinched: 4, 57, 275 (IN-KY-OH), 465 (IN), 640 (TN), 985
State Interstates clinched: I-26 (TN), I-75 (GA), I-75 (KY), I-75 (TN), I-81 (WV), I-95 (NH)
