Title: Irving, TX: Portion of OLD SH 114 wiped out by development
Post by: Brian556 on May 27, 2015, 03:31:45 PM
Just noticed this on Google Maps.
Part of Cabell Dr (OLD SH 114) east of Belt Line Rd has been wiped out by development. Cabell Dr has been realigned to the south.

That is certainly an unexpected place to build a new subdivision, near the DFW runway, surrounded by warehouses and next to the freeway.

That development also uses property which is needed for the planned SH 114 expansion. I'm thinking that may mean the SH 114 expansion is dead. Officially, I think the project is still alive for long-term development. But if the right-of-way is gone, it may as well be dead. And if it is dead, it would leave about a 2-mile-long ghost section of managed lanes just west of the Texas Stadium site.  At the minimum I think they'll need to reevaluate the plan and its right-of-way requirement. I was on SH 114 just yesterday at rush hour and the expansion is very much needed.
