Title: NJ Route 23 Improvements
Post by: roadman65 on August 07, 2021, 02:47:25 PM
A while ago we had a discussion about the very bad geometry of Route 23 Northbound in West Milford, NJ. Thus requiring a 40 mph max speed through the S Curves between High Crest Drive and the Pequannock Water Treatment Plant as the curves are not banked for high speeds on the original two lane NJ 23 through the area.

Well here is an article from 2017 that reports that NJDOT is going to regrade Route 23 Northbound as well as eliminate the Smoke Rise U Turns due to safety concerns, and replace the 1934 bridge over the New York, Susquehanna, and Western Railway and the Pequannock River at the Kinnelon and West Milford Border.

I am guessing it's been on hold due to Covid as it should be completed by now.

A temporary three lane bridge will be built during bridge replacement  of the railroad and river crossing at Hamburg Turnpike with a zipper barrier to change lane configuration to match traffic.  Though a few years old it coincides with other articles.
