US 136 east terminus: Veedersburg or Indianapolis?

For years, AASHTO listed Veedersburg Indiana as the east endpoint of US 136.  (Maybe they still do, or maybe they've just given up trying to maintain a route log.)  That was always perplexing to me, because as far as I know, INDoT has always signposted US 136 further east, to Indianapolis.  But I was reading through historic AASHTO meeting minutes, and I finally figured out the story behind that.  Basically it was due to a botched proposal submitted to AASHTO jointly by Indiana and Illinois (full article here).
