HSR in California now scaled back, Governor Gavin Newsom announces

It looks like the state's HSR program will be scaled back from SF to LA to Merced and Bakersfield:

I remember being enthusiastic about Prop 1A even though I couldn't vote for it when I was in high school. Nowadays though, I think this is probably the right move.

I think it could realistically be extended north to Sacramento or San Jose. But the cost of building it further south or into SF is going to be too costly. Maybe Elon Musk can build his loop to connect LA and Bakersfield.

Indeed that someone has posted about it half an hour beforehand. I tried to delete this thread when it had no replies but it turns out I cannot do that. Also, the forum for that topic is only accessible when logged in, so those who don't use an account can still find out.
