I drove a small portion of CR J9 on French Camp Road this morning which was part of US 99 until it was split into E/W routes between Stockton and Manteca in 1929.  Really there isn't too much ancient looking left aside from a Lincoln Highway shield in downtown French Camp and the unsigned former junction with US 48 at Harlan Road:

The 1926 State Highway Map shows the alignment that would become US 99 heading south out of Stockton through French Camp onwards to Manteca:

Finished the J9/original US 99 blog.  US 99 was originally aligned through French Camp via French Camp Road in 1926.  The alignment might seem odd at first but Mariposa Road wasn't added as part of LRN 4 until 1928.  Post 1928 the French Camp Road alignment of US 99 was discontinued and the route spun off into E/W segments (which possibly actually was signed in 1929) from Stockton to Manteca until US 50 was extended to the Bay Area.  The Lincoln Highway was also routed through French Camp initially via; McKinley Avenue, French Camp Road, Ash Street and Harlan Road.

The next AASHO Database article updates is for Sign County Route J9/French Camp Road.  French Camp Road was part of the original alignment of US 99 south of Stockton which reached Manteca via Legislative Route 4 by way of French Camp.  US 99/LRN 4 was moved to a new direct alignment from Stockton-Manteca which led to a request to extend US 48 from French Camp to Stockton.  Ultimately US 48 would be truncated in 1929 when US 99 was split into US 99 West and US 99 East from Manteca-Stockton.
