I went to the white mountains for fall foliage yesterday. I went from I-93 to us 3 to us 302 to the bear notch road to route 112. Leaves changing color is really nice.

+1. However a quick trip to Google cleared the mystery. I'm surprised I never heard of them b/c in 1967 I was 14yo & it sounds like that was the authors target audience.

I don't know who they are?

The three main characters in John Christopher's White Mountains books. Good reading. Post-apocalyptic fiction. I discovered the books in 1981 via the comic adaptation seen above and I remember the story very well all these years later. While the target audience was teenage boys, that's kind of irrelevant (I was way ahead of my "age group" for reading when I was a kid anyway). I think it's kind of interesting to re-read those books as an adult to see all the things I missed when I was eight years old.

It's three books, plus a prequel published some 20 years later. I hope the graphic is legible; if not, I'll edit this later. The following summarizes the overall plot of the first book reasonably well, although if you were to read the book without having seen this, it wouldn't necessarily be clear the world had been conquered by an alien race. The characters' discovery of the true backstory is part of the storyline.
