For Michigan, I know there's a sign on WB I-94 just west of US-23 that mentions Chicago, at 239 miles. There might be one on SB I-75 in the Mackinac Bridge area that mentions Detroit, but I haven't been up that way in years

SB I-75 just south of I-475 in Ohio has signs mentioning Atlanta and Tampa (new ones, by the way). Also, Lexington KY makes a couple of appearances on I-75 between Toledo and Dayton.
There is one on I-75 SB just south of the northern terminus in Sault Ste. Marie that has Saginaw listed on it and I can't remember the exact mileage on the sign and going back it's too hard to read on StreetView. I think it says 247 though.

Actually that sign is probably Michigan's longest distance sign, it's actually in Copper Harbor closer to US 41's northern terminus because now I recall Eagle Harbor and Hancock being on that sign too.

For Wisconsin, I nominate for the longest intrastate mileage being Madison 202 on EB I -94 at the Lake Menomin Bridge just east of Menomonie.  For interstate destinations, there used to be a small sign north of Madison on WB I-94 for St Paul 247, but that one may have been removed.

Yeah. The first mention of St. Paul isn't until Tomah now.

To my knowledge, this one posts the longest distance mileage sign in Massachusetts.

But there may be signs from further afield referring to Boston for the other part of the question.

If there's none on the thruway, there certainly should be.
Here's one along I-90 eastbound (the Berkshire Section of the Thruway).

I can beat that (at least on I-90). Just east of US 4.

^ Also questionable IMO. An illusion caused by the impending eclipse, perhaps?  ;-)

The OP could say, but maybe a good rule of thumb would be that the sign can't count if intermediate control cities (or large metros, for non-freeways) are skipped.

Well my first example skips both Eugene and Salem. I count the Tampa one, it's not just a celebratory mark like on US-50 or I-40; I-75 doesn't even end in Tampa. If it was a sign for Miami right at the Canadian border, that would be a different story.

Tampa's far from Ohio.  I-75, August, 16, 2017.

That's the one I was talking about, but the sign had yet to be put up the last time GSV went through that area. I-75 is a MAJOR truck and vacation route from there all the way to Tampa (to the point that most of it from Troy, OH to the Florida's Turnpike is at least three lanes each way)

Almost certainly the winner for Indiana is along US 41 just north of I-64 in southwest Indiana. The mileage sign lists the distance to Chicago at 279 miles.

I've also got a Springfield 255 on WB US 60 in Missouri but I think that's been beat already.

I don't think I've ever seen that sign before. Must be somewhere between Toledo and Bowling Green.

The longest in North Carolina is most likely on US-64 right after you cross over from Tennessee. A sign gives the distance to Manteo–564 miles, IIRC.

As far as I know, it's the longest for both categories.

Here is another I grabbed on I-75 in Ohio last summer.  Also August 16, 2017.

I am almost sure someone posted a link a while back to a newspaper article where these were discussed.

When crossing into Texas on I-10 westbound from Louisiana, a sign in Orange near Exit 875 shows:

Beaumont  23
El Paso     857

That is one awesome sign to see.  When I first saw it I was stunned.  Over 800 miles almost straight I=10 in one state.

The longest mileage within Louisiana is this one for Dallas I think, at 173. I'm guessing the longest from another state to a city in Louisiana is he reverse of this. Probably a distance to Shreveport on either US 80 or I-20 eastbound leaving Dallas.

Iowa's entry to this thread is probably this sign on IA 92 leaving Council Bluffs:

My initial thought was the sign on I-35, north of exit 96, which mentions St. Paul at 230 miles, but this clearly wins.

I'm trying to think of an Arkansas example. Probably the signs denoting the distance to St. Louis on US 67 (300+ miles). The first mention of Dallas on southbound I-30 just before Texarkana is only 194 miles.

I'm really not sure what Idaho's would be. I imagine it would be somewhere on US-95 for ones within Idaho, or possibly on US-93 in Nevada for referencing Idaho outside the state (I remember seeing a pretty big one for Twin Falls), but all the GSV imagery in these areas is pretty blurry so I can't really check these. I do know there is a mileage sign to Bend on US-20 just outside Caldwell, which stands out to me a bit, but there's probably longer.  I think there are mileage signs to Boise in Utah on I-84 too.

Oklahoma is kind of a strange case, as we have one large control city in the center of our state and then control cities not that far over the border on every side. Wichita and Amarillo are both fairly deep in their respective states, but still not as deep as OKC is in Oklahoma.

That being said, I would be surprised if there's one in Oklahoma that outdoes this sign just east of Boise City, out at the end of the panhandle. I remember when I drove to the Oklahoma-adjacent parts of CO and NM and turned back toward home, seeing this sign gave me a very good idea of just how big a hole I had dug myself.
