Found yesterday in Waterbury, VT:

Bumping this thread to share some photos of old Florida shields I found this week. Starting with these secondary (S-) turned county (C-) route 200A keys shields located in Lawtey...

A yellow (or what used to be yellow) US 17 shield in Winter Haven. I love the arrow used for this one!

Yellow US 17/blue US 92 assembly still kicking in Davenport. I'm surprised the 92's still have blue left on them after all these years.

Lastly, an SR 224 keys shield in Orange Park.

This beauty in Frederick, Maryland. (I-70/I-270 Interchange)

Not sure most would consider that "best of" (seems like it has to be old and falling apart to qualify), but I know I do. Very imaginative!

I agree. That is a very interesting and cool design. I don't think I've ever seen anything specifically like that before.
Now alternating between different highway shields for my avatar - my previous highway shield avatar for the last few years was US 76.

I can't specifically think of any similar overhead guide signs, but I've seen a similar setup in Vancouver for a ground-mounted sign: http://bit.ly/2RcrD7q

Wouldn't surprise me if one or more MOTI employees were South African or European, or something else. They've been using up arrows, in many capacities, for years. There's gotta be some outside influence.

I really like this!  I have a hard time figuring out a solution for showing drivers that a lane is an exit-only lane, but for the SECOND exit and not the upcoming one.  This does a great job of showing this type of situation!  I don't know how to show this using APL's or traditional exit-only signage with down arrows.

My preference would be to have an EXIT ONLY tab on the second exit's panel but not on the first exit's panel.

I have not seen BC do this overhead yet, but this is how I picture it (with APL's, as is normal in BC). The final sign for Lillooet Road would have a right-facing arrow instead of straight-up:

Well this thread is going to keep me busy for the next few hours.

I got a DSLR one week ago today.  This was my first "BGS," a fairly weathered sign at Killens Pond State Park outside of Felton DE.

A few 1970s-80s era LeHay font signage I found this weekend on a trip up to Aroostook County, Maine. While most of the state has seen the demise of a majority of these signs, there are still a decent amount still kicking around up north!

US 2 unisign at the east end of ME 159 in Island Falls. The shield shapes are funky, but not many of this design are still alive. At one point, there were LeHay directional banners above this sign (as per GSV), but those appear to have gone missing.

LeHay font WRONG WAY signs at the Maine welcome center in Houlton.

US 1 and ME 10 shields directly across the street from each other in downtown Presque Isle.

ME 89/223 unisign in Caribou.

ME 11 shield in Fort Kent.

ME 11/159 unisign in Patten.

That's very nice! Although not really my preferred style of up arrow.

I-5 south on the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle used to have an up arrow sign with lane markings like this.  This was to show that the left exit to the 520 bridge isn't an exit-only ramp even though it's a fairly major exit.  They removed this arrow when they reimposed tolls on 520.  Of the four lanes on the bridge in that direction, the left lane is the only one that goes through Downtown Seattle intact.  It is important for through drivers to stay in that lane, but that whole part of the freeway is weird, built just before left exits were banned.

Looks like they borrowed some Canadian overhead pedestrian crossing signs.

I've always wondered about those, because I've seen them elsewhere around Maine. Here's another example in Old Town...

Damn that sign got dirty quick. I think it was only installed like 12 years ago? Funny how that happens.

I think the difference between your two mentioned WA diagrammmatic arrow signs and the one posted by Brandon is the number of exits displayed (two in Brandon's indicating two upcoming exits, versus one in the WA-520 example, and one in the WA-16 example). Still, they're both pretty cool on account of their relative rarity here in WA.

I know this might not classify as "best" but it's best in my book. This sign in New Cumberland, PA. The way they put "TOLL I-76 PENN TURNPIKE ROAD" is pretty unique, I would not have thought of that. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2068478,-76.8752275,3a,43.9y,313.39h,114.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sER2k5C1xlvUf04p432xp8g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
