In a similar vein, I'm going to create a list of which states the top 100 posters are from. This may help us fill in some of the blanks and get a better idea of which states are over/under represented. I'll post it when it's complete.

I think we can tell that from what people write about each state.

Yeah, but you know how much I love statistics. Or, at least you should know, anyways  :-D

But that's the implied point I was making about my location signature, your statistics won't be correct.  A lot of users don't list where they live and others do weird references.  So basically it's a frivolous effort to spend time making a chart on.  Besides you can get a gist of where people are by how popular certain states are in conversation.

Regarding the still empty spots on the collective list:

Regarding Delaware, I believe that is where Alex (our very own Webmaster here at AARoads) is from, if I recall correctly. Also, there is Alex4897, who is in Delaware.

Regarding Mississippi, there's golden eagle.

I think ColossalBlocks has some kind of association with Missouri, whether it be the place he is from, currently resides, or something else.

This thread in the Welcome board is actually specifically about forum users in or from Ohio, so in that thread you can see a few different people on here who are from that state.

I think wriddle082 has some kind of association with South Carolina.

While it would probably be incredibly hard to create, as has been noted, it would indeed be extremely cool to have a forum member general map, if it ever was feasible.

There are at least two people in Missouri I've been trying to coax onto the forum, but have not been successful.

No, Alex is from Tampa, FL according to his profile.

That must be where he resides now, but I want to think that he was born and/or raised in Delaware. I feel like I read that somewhere in the "About" section of the AARoads site, where it talked about people like Alex and Andy (among the founders of AARoads).

Roadfan had a roadgeek locator back in the day. It would be completely useless now but it was the bee's tits in 2000.

I wasn't listed as the Oklahoma user? I'm offended :P

Scott is one the earliest members.

I don't think there's any bias... it could have even been alphabetical by username. For the purposes of the thread, as long as we have at least one, that's all that matters. Now, I could make a more detailed list that gives priority to your status, when you joined, etc.  :pan:

Just an FYI, the link says "403 - Forbidden, Access denied". But I assume you're not a fan of my idea, based on froggie's image  :-D

I was born in Chicago, but now live in Seattle, so would I count for IL or WA? Or perhaps both?

I too kind of do that but I would not post promotion in a typical post. Instead, I do an update on my fictional plans page on heavy posts (500, 1000, 1500, 3000)

I would suggest that with the volume of information currently on the Web, physical location is less important than it was in the late nineties/early noughties.  I am based in Kansas but since my chief road-related interest is signing plans, my "beat" is anywhere these plans are available electronically, including about 40 US states and 12 foreign countries.
