Personal text/Signature
« on: October 26, 2021, 06:40:37 AM »

Should you only include what you like to do as your personal text?

And for me I don't get what a "signature" is but it seems like you can add whatever to it. I was thinking it was for your full name.

It can have anything that is under or equal to 300 characters (characters outside the Basic Multilingual Plane count as 2, and you can go slightly over if you know how to abuse BBCode tags) and doesn't violate the forum rules.

Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

im in my head thinking about what signature I should have or should I just remain not having one. I had a personal text saying "I love going out places" and removed it because I didn't really like it and I made another one saying "I like hanging out with others". Because I was kind of bored having a bland profile.

You can put whatever you want there subject to the forum rules (no political content, no images larger than the size noted in the forum rules, etc).

The signature feature is a callback to email signatures and Usenet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block

Consider how utterly irrelevant to anything on this forum my signature is. I just happen to love the quotation and the follow-up.

Signatures are for basically whatever you want people to associate you with. That's how I see them anyways. Whether it's a joke quote, a list of clinched highways, a genuine quote you enjoy, or your hobbies, it's something beyond a name and profile picture to identify users.

Mine is a mix of old and new. The sign photo is one I took over the summer featuring two US routes that are closely linked to my history. Plus I liked the sign and thought it would just look nice in my signature.

The text below has been a part of my signature for years now. The smiley face thing I came up with basically when I originally joined the forum. And JDOT is a relic of when everyone on the Road-Related Illustrations board was coming up with their own fictional DOTs. I've decided to leave them for historical purposes at this point.

I turn off signatures in my forum view so I can't see anything y'all put there, but I have one myself for those who like them.

For fun, I made a signature saying "Not a roadgeek".

For years, I used an email and Usenet signature highlighting my fandom of two championship-caliber sports teams/individuals. I did away with the personal email signature at some point, and changed my Usenet signature when I started using a spam retarder in my email address in the "from" line (because at the time, spammers were harvesting email addresses from Usenet to target their recipients.)

I use a work email signature that includes various ways to contact me (email, phone numbers, social media accounts, agency Web site, etc.) and a different signature on my phone Outlook account to call attention to the fact that it came from a mobile device where typos and brevity are often common.

Here, my signature is Grumpy Cat because she's my spirit animal, and my personal text is a statement that I'm comfortable in my own beliefs and actions as an affirmation of my faith; that I sleep well at night with the opinions I have and the causes I support and oppose. "It Is Well With My Soul" is one of my favorite hymns.

Some people change theirs up frequently for whatever reason. Don't feel pressured to have one, or not have one.
