Nebraska:
Highest numbered state highway: NE 370
Highest numbered US Highway: US 385
Highest numbered Interstate Highway: I-680
Nebraska generally has low-numbered state highways. Most are 1 and 2 digit numbers, and most 3 digit numbered highways are relatively short and/or of lesser importance. The highest regular number is 137-the only two that exceed that are NE 250, which was numbered that way because it was put into state law, and NE 370 which was numbered to match the Iowa highway that continued across the Missouri River.

Of course, you could say that US-491 is both highest state and US, as US and Interstates are seen as state routes, legislatively.

Unposted, you have some "special interest" routes used to prevent nuclear dumping near the Skull Valley Reservation, UT-900 and UT-901, which are not signed or even paved (and probably won't be anytime soon).

What about all those "Airport 980" routes?

I'm not sure if those are state maintained highways or not.  Ditto the Marine Tax roads/

QuoteThe highest posted route of any kind in Virginia is SR 10650 in Fairfax County.

There's a SR 10772, but I don't remember where I saw it.  VDOT's traffic log confirms the existence of a SR 10657.
