Hopefully, at the next PIM, they will present the preferred alternative for the Interstate 794 east-west corridor. As I've stated before, my preference is the Freeway Improvement Alternative with Right-Hand Ramps at Jackson/Van Buren: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c4F7xjqhGVZJ6v3v1yqpO5bBEbx6JsnJ/view.

Yeah, once those highways with supermagnetic levitation technology and hyperdirectional access ramps were built, a lot things had to be reconsidered.

Driving to the airport last week in the rain, I got stuck in traffic trying to get from NB I-35 to I-635, and it made me wonder if reconstructing this interchange is on literally anyone's radar at KDOT. It's just a complete shitshow of an interchange:

- Only one lane from NB 35 to 635, causing backups in the left lane on 35
- Weaving of traffic between SB 635 and NB 35, all on a one-lane C-D road on the left side of NB 35
- Oops, all left exits!

I spent 15 minutes just trying to get from Shawnee Mission Parkway to 635, and there wasn't a crash or any other reason I could see for the traffic to back up -- though there easily could have been a crash with all the people trying to get over to the left lane to exit and the suddenly slowing traffic in what should be the fast lane. I know it's hemmed in by railroad tracks to the north and Turkey Creek to the south, but in the words of every infomercial ever, "there's got to be a better way!"

As best I could tell from my cursory search, KDOT doesn't have any plans to study this interchange, and even MARC's 2050 Transportation Plan doesn't include it.

I also drove the Clarks Ferry-Selinsgrove stretch of US 11/15 over the weekend (as well as the open portion of the CSVT to the north) and while it's certainly a nice drive if you're continuing straight, I can see how some of the turn-offs could start to become an issue at busier times such as this past weekend. I didn't notice anything like that heading north, but returning south on Sunday I did notice a long line of cars on PA 104 leading back from the intersection with US 11/15, as well as several other intersections where traffic turning left off 11/15 NB had to take  whatever slim gaps they could get and quickly gun it across 11/15 SB. Granted the weekend of the 4th is not your typical weekend traffic-wise, but I wonder if any of these intersections could become problematic in the future with enough increased traffic.

In a perfect (fictional) world I wouldn't mind an I-83 extension all the way to Rochester, but I doubt this segment of US 11/15 is in need of a freeway upgrade anytime soon. And even if it was, the terrain might pose some constraints as was noted upthread.

Quote from: webny99 on July 08, 2025, 10:23:51 PMI just drove the Clarks Ferry-Selinsgrove stretch of US 11/15 NB on the evening of the 4th and I was again reminded that it's a beautiful, easy drive. I believe I had the cruise set the entire 32 miles from merging on at 22/322 to exiting the current terminus of the freeway in Selinsgrove (while gawking at the ongoing CSVT construction).

[...]

Once CSVT is complete, this corridor will form a stoplight-free and entirely free-flowing route from Baltimore, MD up to Rochester, NY.
Dillsburg and Camp Hill, PA would beg to differ about US 15 being free-flowing
Good thing neither are located between Baltimore, MD to Rochester, NY.

Dillsburg is certainly a thorn not unlike Hummels Wharf/Shamokin Dam if heading towards Frederick (or DC via Frederick rather than Baltimore). But regardless of direction south of Harrisburg, the Camp Hill-Duncannon stretch is easily bypassed by US 22/322 & either side of Harrisburg via I-81/I-83/PA 581 which maintains the free-flowing minimum-4-lane route.

Speaking of, I unintentionally got a nice view of several of the high overpasses currently under construction. US 15 SB had a long backup entering Shamokin Dam that almost extended back to the CSVT interchange, so I diverted onto back roads just south of the CSVT interchange and rejoined 11/15 within Hummels Wharf. And along the way, I wound up with these progress photos:

This sign has been faded to nothing for as long as I've lived here.  Of course, it doesn't matter, because the lane does not in fact end in a quarter-mile.

All the "Alternate US 50" shields on the CA 89/CA 88/Mormon Emigrant Trail routing, removed only when US 50 over Echo Summit has an extended closure:

Quote from: SP Cook on Today at 10:46:56 AMNo, no it is not.  If you play football the regular way and then decide the championship with rock-paper-scisors, and do that for 20 years, the results in year 21 are still 100% random and illegitimate.

Therefore all of the "Martin would have..." "Irvan would have..." Based on different mixes of race types is foolish.  It is impossible to know, because the result of the chase is totally a random event, in no way reflective of who had a good year, let alone the best year.  Just a random result, and totally illegitimate.

Hell, I'd argue Mark Martin was screwed out of a championship because of a points penalty.
