I also plan on being in that area again later this week (where the Virgina I-77/I-81 sign combo is).   And I'll post another update on it. ;)

new batch of Jim Lindsay photos from 1961, including colored Rhode Island shields on a green guide sign!

And it's still alive as of 08/20/09. ;)

And yes, I did take a look @ the back of the sign, and there are no install dates on it.

I happen to see you guys added my US-17/FL-5 shield to the gallery.

Just one comment on that.  Here's the current caption for it:
QuoteFlorida 5 is the hidden designation for US-1. Occasionally, it is signed by mistake. Photo by James Mast.

Here's what I think it should be: (changes in bold)
QuoteFlorida 5 is the hidden designation for most of US-1 and parts of US-17. Occasionally, it is signed by mistake. Photo by James Mast.

The main reason I suggest this is because people might be confused because of the US-17 shield beside it. ;)

fixed!

oh and some new Arizona and Maryland photos, including the first photo I've ever seen of a Maryland embossed state route.

added some Jim Lindsay photos.  Also, the infrastructure is being slowly improved, both in obvious and in subtle ways - some better front page layout for all you humans, and I'm tweaking the titles and alternate texts for all you search engine robots.

He took such vivid photos. It's almost like they're glossy postcards.

Well, and old U.S. 611 shield in Willow Grove is now M.I.A as I went to get an updated picture of it this weekend....(boooo) :-(

just added a crapton of New York, including your state highway 9N.  I tend to do states in big spurts, regardless of who sent me photos.  When someone sends me photos, I save them locally on my own HD, and then when I feel like doing a particular state, then up goes a lot from that state.

oh and let me know if you find a broken or otherwise inexplicable link in this NY batch ... I caught like 3 mistakes briefly glancing through the upload, and I am sure there are more.  Perhaps I am drunk?

I'd just like to remind some of you that I have plenty of New York, Florida, and other signs on the east coast that I can throw your way.

I'm surprised that someone has a picture of an overhead S- route from Florida, and how nothing has changed with that type of sign in 41 years.

This pair of signs have seen better days.  I was just down there recently and they look really bad since I took the picture below.  I'll try to update this post once I do the resize stuff later tonight hopefully.

EDIT:
Here are those pictures I promissed.  Both were taken on 10/20/09:

How much time elapsed between the two sets of photos? It's funny that both shields look worn but the directional banner does not. And it appears that the rusted bolts are the main cause of the wear on the two shields...

I have overhead S-route photos from Sample Rd. when it was S-834 instead of 834.  www.alpsroads.net/roads/fl/fl_834
