Does anyone have any information on the historic Albemarle Sound Bridge, which (according to Wikipedia) connected Edenton to Mackeys from 1938 to 1990? I would like to know where the bridge was situated; was it in the same location as the current bridge built in 1990? I am planning to move to Edenton within the next few years, and would like to know more about the historical routes in the area.

The old bridge was just west of the existing NC 32 bridge.  You can see the old abutments adjacent to the existing bridge ends.

The old bridge was downright scary.  Extremely narrow with zero shoulders.  Nothing like driving on it in a small passenger car and having a semi pass you in the other direction going 70 mph.  Big wind shifting (high cross winds abound anyway).  I thought it was neat as a kid during the several crossings I'd been on but the moment I drove it myself my tune changed pretty quickly.

The old bridge was as I recall straight as an arrow with a draw bridge in the middle.  I want to say I've seen a photo of a ribbon cutting of the 1938 bridge but can't seem to find it on the Google.
