Exit 11 on I-75 in Michigan really wants to emphasize that it leads to DOWNTOWN Monroe:

Interesting that the locomotive used on the train station shield is a unit that hasn't been used in over five decades. The train power depicted is an A Unit Locomotive and is been out of service since the early 60's.

The sign in the photo was just installed at a brand new roundabout in Lakeland, FL.
I always thought those shields contained diesel freight locomotives, with the exception of those used for Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North stations, which use Budd M1's and M1A's respectively.

Huh, the more you know. Most of my Michigan driving has been in more rural areas, so I hadn't seen that before.

Lane Only on the bottom right sign should have a yellow bar across the bottom and say ONLY.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

The beach has streets?
I'm more surprised by the very sensible and European-style signalized crosswalk with pole mounted signals... don't tell FHWA or they will make you covert it to a HAWK, with overhead signals.

At least with respect to it being a regular signal, the 2009 MUTCD only has guidance about overhead signal placement--and that applies to roads with posted speed or 85th percentile speed of 45mph or greater.

For HAWKs, the 2009 MUTCD again gives guidance only that 35mph roads should have both minimum HAWK faces overhead, but on roads of less than 35mph it says that the HAWK faces can be installed on both sides of the road (assuming median of sufficient width is present) or at least one of the two faces should be overhead.

This road appears to be 25mph, according to the sign at right in the street view. So the pole mounted signals appear to be 2009 MUTCD-kosher.

I would say that a combination of pole mounted and overhead signals is best for visibility purposes.  Especially if you are behind a big truck.  The old California standard was great: side mounted on both far corners plus an overhead signal in the middle, is generally sufficient.

I've always thought the differing arrow sizes on this assembly in Washington was odd:
