I was studying some old Oklahoma state highway maps available at:

The 1953 Oklahoma City inset shows a US 66AL running along Britton Road in the north part of OKC. What did "AL" stand for? It only shows up on the 1953 map.
Also notice that current I-44 is shown as OK 66A. I've seen maps that show I-44 as US 66/77 and the old route as OK 66/77. It must have been confusing.

my guess would be something along the lines of "alternate loop". but that is just pulled out of thin air.

Though MDSHA uses US 40AL for US 40 Alternate.

06/04/1951: Establish US 66 By-Pass in Tulsa from the east approach to the 51st Street Bridge, east and northeast to SH 33.
I'm guessing the "approach to the 51st Street Bridge" is I-44/Skelly Drive between the end of the Turner Turnpike and the Arkansas River. But the end at OK 33 is puzzling. Did US 66 Bypass end at Admiral?

If you can get him to reply to you, could you recommend that the Chronological History/Revision History files of the highways
without memorial designations be uploaded at some point? (Preferably with the PDFs of the action minutes like the US highways have, but I'd be ecstatic just to get the missing Revision History files.)
I mentioned those files as well.
I just noticed that US 66/77 was duplexed with OK 66A for a short distance.
