I've had two instances of snow this year. There was one where it was snowing for a good six hours, but the temperature was 35 degrees for most of the day, so very little accumulated. So, I took a frozen piece of tupperware outside to have something the snow would actually accumulate on. Even after six hours, only half an inch fell on it.

More recently, there was a dusting that didn't amount to much. Its been three years since I've had a good snow.

We're getting another storm in Utah today. The good news is it's wetter than the one we had on Monday, but it's also a bit warmer - so we've been getting rain most of the day with only brief periods of snow. And the precip really hasn't been that heavy thanks to the persistent wind from the southwest, which has resulted in a rain-shadow type effect in the Salt Lake Valley/Davis County area because of the Oquirrh Mountains.

That should shift to a northwest wind with a cold front this afternoon, which should also switch us to all snow. Should get at least a couple inches of it this evening.

We wound up with 2 inches of snow, which was less than expected thanks to warmer temperatures and a late wind shift, so more of the precip fell as rain than originally anticipated.

Inversion conditions setting up now and should last till next Tuesday, when another storm might be able to track just south enough to impact us. Although we could see some snow, it won't be anything too significant, and the bigger story might end up being some very cold temperatures behind it.

With our second snowfall arriving last night, we've tied you up at two.  :)
Third snowfall this morning; around an inch or so and still falling... slowly...
Fourth snowfall this morning; just a dusting that hardly covered the grass, but still enough to create some very icy roads.
Fifth snowfall creating messy roads just in time for our afternoon commute. It's still coming down as of this post, but it's much worse further south. ...

Woke up to snowfall #6 this morning, a sloppy inch or so thanks to temps hovering right around freezing.

We may get our 2nd and potentially 3rd snowfall tonight and Wednesday night into Christmas Eve. The 3rd snowfall is a bit up in the air at the moment

Wild ride for western WA on Monday: started off with a record daily high of 59 set at Sea-Tac, then heavy rain rolled in, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures that allowed snowfall to develop. A rare December snowstorm in Seattle! And I managed to get stuck in it while driving around for work.

Our two snow systems that could have brought some white Christmas aspirations was a dud and looking like a dud. Our bigger story will be the first arctic shot this winter season. The coldest temperatures since February and the coldest Christmas since 2017 are possibly in our future

Whoopdie doo. It's 50F right now (in December in Northeast South Dakota!) so that's nice. But we're getting a blizzard tonight and tomorrow. SD likes to trick you into thinking you'll escape a "white Christmas" one year and then throwing a blizzard in your face.

Yesterday was the warmest day in over a month in Salt Lake thanks to some strong south winds. The airport got up to 53 (warmest reading there since November 18), and many other observation sites in the Salt Lake Valley got at least a few degrees warmer than that. My car thermometer even hit 60 at one point. As you might imagine, that pretty much melted any snow that was still left below 6000 feet or so.

The warm came to a quick end this morning after a strong cold front came through. Although it didn't bring much snow in the valleys, the mountains got several inches and will probably get some more tonight. Certain parts of Salt Lake County may be lucky enough to pick up an inch or two of lake effect snow tonight, but as expected, the bigger story with this storm is the temperature drop. Lows will be in the teens for the next few nights, and tomorrow's high will likely fail to reach the freezing mark. Higher elevations will have a good shot at dipping below 0F.

Unfortunately, a strong high-pressure system will move in afterwards, which will bring back inversions. Looking like a hazy/smoggy/foggy Christmas for the Wasatch Front this year...with no snow on the ground.

7/8

It's currently 8C (47F) this Christmas Eve morning in Kitchener, but it's going from a green Christmas Eve to a white Christmas with 10cm (4") of snow expected overnight. Just in time! :)

The rest of the week looks cloudy, as usual this time of year. At least the snow will make the grey skies a little less gloomy than with dead grass.

Chicago is about 2 days ahead of Massachusetts. 59 and raining tomorrow (did you get rain?), but we're not getting the low temperatures afterwards.

44° now here, and lower than the surrounding area (and it's not the high point yet).

Dark Sky shows a sharp diagonal line from the AL/GA/TN tripoint to the PA/OH/ON tripoint (in water), and to the west of that line, it's suddenly colder. To the east of that line, it's pretty warm for December, with only a slight decrease in the Appalachians. It appears that this sharp line will fizzle before it gets to my location.

Had a white Christmas here, which only happens around 10-20% of the time in my experience. Got around 2-3 inches of powdery snow overnight into Christmas day, with another inch or so added on in the early afternoon, with temps in the low to mid 20's. The snow has stopped but with winds around 20 mph we now have a lot of drifting going on.

Yup we got a brief downpour as the cold front came through. The temperature drop froze any puddles that were left over. Now we're back into the 40s after an arctic Christmas. Still have yet to get any decent snow

Snowfall #8 should ensure there's snow on the ground for New Year's. We got a good 3-4 inches last night and more is falling now.

The first actual snowfall is tonight, 2-4 inches expected with then two tenths of an inch of ice on top of that before switching to rain tomorrow. So slop lol

Got my first "real" snow of the season, though it only amounted to just over an inch. It would have been more, if the snow didn't melt on contact for the first couple hours.

We had a surprise dusting to 1/2 inch of snow last night in Salt Lake. Normally this isn't enough to worry about, but apparently thanks to the relatively lame winter we've had so far everyone forgot how to drive in it. It usually takes a few more inches of snow to cause the amount of traffic accidents we saw on the freeways this morning.

Unfortunately, it appears this storm was too weak to clear the inversion completely, and thanks to the snow that fell this morning we're probably going to see quite a bit of fog in most valleys tonight. Looks like we will have a few weak storms next week, which should keep valley inversions from becoming too bad and hopefully give us at least a little snow.
