Title: I-5 Santa Clarita Valley Enhancement Project
Post by: Plutonic Panda on October 26, 2021, 11:33:17 PM
This project will widen and improve I-5 from Castaic to CA-14 with new HOV lanes, aux lanes, and a short extension of the existing truck lanes on the south end of the project. Project was supposed to begin in the summer but is on track to begin this November.

They've already caused a couple years' worth of delays (spread out over a decade) widening the roadbed from 14 almost up to Lyons, and then keeping everyone off it so there was no benefit from it. Perhaps they prefer having the jam-up at the top of the pass, where it's exacerbated by the hill, rather than having a narrowing jam-up halfway through Santa Clarita. If they widen the next 6 miles up to 126, they might be persuaded to add the lanes to that point, since a fair amount of traffic drains to 126.

I said this in the 126 thread and I'll say it here; I wish they'd add high speed flyover connectors to the 126 at least covering the freeway portion of that road.
