Title: CA 49 from Oakhurst to Coloma
Post by: dbz77 on June 29, 2019, 08:18:43 PM
On a trip to Lake Tahoe in 2017, I took a road trip along SR-49 from Oakhurst, California to the state park in Coloma, California, north of Placerville. This passes through the Gold Country in the Sierra western foothills. It took about six hours to traverse the whole route, with a brief stop in Jamestown, where there is a railroad museum.

49 is one of my favorites given the large assortment of mining towns, monuments and some really fun sections of roadway.  My wife works in Oakhurst so luckily I get frequent the Highway often.  So far this is what I got on my CA 49 web series:

I was in this part of California not too long ago myself. I took this road from I-80/Auburn to CA-120 to get to Yosemite. I stopped along the way at Coloma and Columbia (that old western town). The highway between Auburn and Placerville is probably the most crooked part of the route, but not as much so as Route 120 up to Yosemite. :sombrero:

Gets way more crooked in the Merced River Canyon south of Coulterville.

Yeah, it is very crooked, without guardrails.
