Any excuse to post this one for New York 67, which looks like it will remain standing through the end of the 2010s here in Amsterdam.  Taken November 5, 2016.

Rule clarification question: Since the OP didn't uphold my assertion that Quebec secondary shields should be playable on Quebec autoroute shields and vice versa, it is a given that in any jurisdiction that signs routes differently based on some sort of status (primary, secondary, etc.) the signs for different systems are not interchangeable?

Asking for a friend with a bunch of Tennessee signs.

Might be that shield shape makes all the difference, so Tennessee rectangle markers are not interplayable with Tennessee triangle markers, whether or not they are in separate route systems.

They're only considered to be the same if they're interchangeable, such as Louisiana's color variations, with the one exception that Texas RMs and FMs match each other.

What about North Dakota route markers? The state is slowly transitioning from the old Indian headress shape to one based on the state's more or less rectangular borders? Some routes will have both styles of route markers. Some Tennessee routes also mix-and-match rectangle and triangle markers.

North Dakota – That's just old vs new.  They are interchangeable in that they refer to the same type of route.

Tennessee – Aren't the rectangle/triangle mismatches actually errors?
Keep right except to pass.  Yes.  You.

Not necessarily. While it's true that the wrong classification is sometimes posted, the same number can change from primary to secondary, or vice versa, at an intersection. Case in point is TN 63 at US 25E south of Harrogate.
