Ontario 7 or 8 from alamy.

Alamy is a stock photo company, in the business of selling licenses to photos in its online inventory, on behalf of the photographers it works for. Did you pay Alamy to use the photo you posted, or otherwise get Alamy's (or its photographer's) permission to repost it here? Crediting the source isn't enough here -- this company wants to get paid.

I'm not one of Alamy's photographers, but have been occasionally contacted by other stock photo companies about selling photos through them (I declined).

In addition, I thought part of the attraction of this game was to post your own photos. Certain posters have a tendency to just go out and grab photos they find on the Web and post them just to participate. Rule #9 prohibits Street View, but seems to me that the spirit of the rule would also prohibit just going out and searching for sign photos to play.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I disagree, though since it's 1's game he can address this if he wants.

We could use more people in the game, including people who haven't built up their road sign photo inventories, especially with some players busy on the road gathering new material. GMSV would make things too easy, if it were allowed here. But diving into the AARoads photo galleries, and other web sources, requires more work and is IMO OK -- so long as the poster respects the source's property rights, which I think precludes using some web sources (like sites presenting stock photos for sale) like they were free AARoads galleries.

FWIW, I checked the rules and there is nothing about  Alamy or their ilk, only no Google Street View.

My 2 pfennigs worth.

My assumption is that gsv is the only thing that's not allowed if nothing is mentioned.

The issue with alamy has nothing to do with the rules of the game. It has to do with legal reasons.

No. I didn't even notice...

(I can't even figure out why it was played. Looking for an illegal jump, checking the previous page, checking page 1, and considering alamy to be invalid doesn't solve the mystery.)

No, for the same reason business Interstates don't match regular Interstates. (US routes are different, as they look identical.)

By that theory, then, old and modern Arkansas shields don't match since the new ones lack "state road"  ?

The business triangle is a different type of route shield from non-business routes. Older designs for the same system count as the same.

Only because it has a business sign over it.  The triangle is the original design, but whatever.
