A US 51 twofer, which is appropriate since this was taken along US 2. (The roundabout is nowhere near being finished, BTW).

US 51 -> US 371 in Prescott, Arkansas (December 12, 2020)

I take pictures of road signs, that's about it.

General rule of thumb: Just stay in the "Traffic Control" section of the forum and you'll be fine.

Two observations about the above photo:

1.) This is why I hate the wide route markers for three-digit routes. It ruins the symmetry of the sign. Why didn't they put the two US 371 signs on the same level? It would make for a better-looking assembly.

2.) It appears that Arkansas has changed the shape of the US shield in the route marker. In the old style, the bottom wasn't flat like these, it curved upwards a bit before descending to the point.

Wyoming 371 > wide Wyoming 258:

(A quick search of the thread makes me think we haven't yet played a "258".)

1. Honestly not sure, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. It would definitely balance out if like shields were level to each other, although Arkansas doesn't do it that often.

2. Arkansas does use a slightly different variant of the US Route shield, although I believe they stopped using it for brand new setups and shield replacements as early as a few years ago. I mentioned this in another thread in the "Mid-South" region of the forum, but US 49 and 63 now share a concurrency between Jonesboro and Interstate 40. I took some pictures of the highway signs while I was there, and the route shields were replaced to look like the new standard.

Is that still up? Portsmouth used to be a sanctuary for button copy, especially west of town at that interchange where OH 73 and OH 104 intersect US 52 and the Carl D. Perkins bridge to my side of the river, but I haven't seen any button copy in Portsmouth in ages. In fact, last time I was on a stretch of US 52 in the area (from Ashland to South Point) all the button copy that was there a few years ago had been replaced.

Anyway, here's the last cutout US 23 sign in Big Stone Gap, Va.

No, that picture was taken in 2006. By 2010 they had replaced it. With the new one they've spelled out "Third St" and removed Shawnee State Univ. from the sign.
