Title: Quebec: A-35 link expected to be complete in 2017
Post by: froggie on February 12, 2012, 09:56:34 PM
That according to this St. Albans, VT newspaper (http://www.samessenger.com/node/2584).  Quebec is expecting completion of the A-35 autoroute down to the US/Canadian border in 2017.

Was just up there yesterday....You could see the work going on, but it's gonna be a while before it even makes it to the border at Philipsburg/Saint Armand-Highgate, VT. I could see construction about three miles south of the current end of A35. But, hey, alot can happen in 5 years...

I was going to ask about the update - was planning to take a look on the way up to Ottawa. Sounds like I don't need to worry too much. About where does it start?

There's a lot of farmland around..If you're coming from the border (can't think of the town name) you will run across a completed, but not open interchange and from what I could tell, south of the interchange, maybe about a mile. Walked off and left my camera and my phone lost it's charge. I know, Arggg! At this point, the A35 has MAYBE seven miles, but nothing new open, but getting close. If you are in the area, you'll see what I mean. I'll try to do a google scenario a little later.

It should be finished to St-Sébastien next year, and to the border by 2017.

I can't think of the town the interchange is at, complete, just gated off...

Ouch to losing your camera. I know a site that can help you find the place without knowing the town - hint - when you said "google scenario..." :P

You can see the evidence of it continuing south of St. Jean sur Richeilieu and I think a bit past St. Sebastien..

I guess I was wondering if there's anyhting to see off Ch. Molleur or 202, or the river crossing next to Ch de Bois.

Construction is still halted. La Presse newspaper has made its monday frontpage with that story : Municipality of Saint-Alexandre went to court to relocate the access to the town that the MTQ planned at R-227; Saint-Alexandre wants the interchange closer to its industrial park, with an additional overpass, so that trucks do not have to go through the whole village to access the business zone, relieving them from a 5 km detour.

Construction has not begun yet for one or the other interchange, and could delay the opening up to late 2014.

Here's the knot : http://goo.gl/flqq3j

There a Facebook group who hadn't been updated since a while who show the maps of the proposed interchange location for A-35 at St-Alexandre https://www.facebook.com/pages/Autoroute-35-%C3%89changeur-Saint-Alexandre/351246478282236

Resurrecting this thread as I took A-35 and the new extension to QC 133 (which apparently just opened up last week) yesterday enroute to the Quebec City meet.  I believe Oscar is taking it today.

The new terminus at QC 133 (between Pike River and St. Sébastian) does not have an exit number.  It's located just south of KM15, so I would guess it will become Exit 14 in the future.

A map in another thread (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=5910.msg220759#msg220759) suggests there was to be an interchange at QC 227.  Unlike that map, no interchange was built.

There is a half-interchange to/from the south at Chemin de la Grande-Ligne Est.  It's Exit 36.

Where the new alignment meets the former endpoint connector to QC 133 is now a half-interchange to/from the north and is Exit 38.

Here's now the exit numbers changed:

3-->39
6-->42
7-->43
9-->45
11-->47
14-->50

Not sure if there were originally exit numbers at the A-10 interchange.  The new exit numbers there are 55E/55O.

There was some dispute about where this interchange will be located, the MTQ original plans was this one

however the BAPE and the CPTAQ, a divisions of the minister of the environment and minister of agriculture suggested this plan

To be exact, the ramp numbers are 55-E and 55-O.  Quebec seems to consistently include the hyphen, so that for example people don't mistake 55O for 550.

To be anal, 55-E is not a number. But 55-e is.

This very sign is endangered, as it has been replaced in the provincial sign catalog by a BYS with beacons, much alike but specific to blizzards.

Thanks for the info!

The official opening of the new A-35 stretch was held yesterday (see press release (http://www.mtq.gouv.qc.ca/centredocumentation/Documents/salle-presse/2014/2014-10-17/communique-version-ang-2014-10-17.pdf)). Rather tellingly, no mention was made of completing the link to the border.

It is stated in the press release that a motorist would still have to travel 17 km on the 133.  It appears from maps that the 133 is a limited access dual-carriageway motorway for several kms north of the frontier.  For how many kms does the A-35 have to be constructed to provide a complete Autoroute?

According to this project map (http://www.mtq.gouv.qc.ca/centredocumentation/Documents/salle-presse/2014/2014-10-17/Affiche_Aut35.pdf) it's 13.4 km to the border, including the 4.5 km section of R-133 that will need to be upgraded.

Drove the extension last night, it was dark, so I couldn't get any pictures. I couldn't see any evidence from the border of construction, but could at the end of the extension. I'll try to some shots on my way home Monday.

There isn't any evidence that I saw. Most of the alignment is away from 133, so your best bet is to travel down the few side roads that cross the path.

Saw the extension in the daylight on the drive home yesterday. You could see it from the end of the roads, evidence of construction, no where else from what I could see. If I had ventured some other roads crossing it, maybe. It has cut off quite a chunk, but still aways to go. By looking at google maps, it looks like the real only option is to connect the new alignment with the existing four lane carriageway to the border crossing. Where that would come into play is anyone's guess, but after it crosses QC202. But it's progress! Don't get me started at the hour and a half it took me to cross at Highgate Springs.

On the MTQ site, they say "to be determined".

So let's say politicians will make another round of promises for the next elections, in 2018!
