This one of an industrial plant in Woodlawn, Texas is so cool as its different from most others as its a perfect sphere.

There's Gaffney, SC's Peachoid, which is obviously shaped like a peach. I love tacky local small town attractions like these.

Don't know about anybody else, but whenever I would drive by the peach water tower near Gaffney SC, I always thought that it looked like a gigantic butt mooning I-85.

This is another round/spherical, in Fairview, TX.  It has somehow survived the transition of its surroundings from rural horse farms to busy suburban enclave, without being torn down.

A major landmark in Springfield. Driving down US-65 to Branson there are quite a few water towers along the way. It's interesting thinking about what would happen if this thing decided to burst.

Looks like a spaceship, but it was to resemble a microchip as supposedly this is the birthplace of the chip.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery in Newark, NJ used to have one on top of one its buildings that looked like a Pabst Beer Bottle.  Unfortunately, that brewery has been leveled for decades now so it predates GSV for a caption.

Back in the late 80s the myth was that it was (by design) mooning Charlotte.

Wrong direction! Seeing that GA is the Peach State, shouldn't it be mooning Atlanta instead?

That would make some sense given that Upstate SC produces way more peaches than the entirety of Georgia to stick it in their faces, as it were.  However IIRC it was more about big city looking down on small town kind of thing.

I did some googling and couldn't find any reference to this myth.  The official reason it was built in 1981 was to highlight that the Gaffney area was a prodigious peach producer.

This tower used to sit atop 909 Walnut, downtown Kansas City MO. I remember seeing it in the 60's but it has been gone for decades.

Wouldn't this be a doppler (or similar) radar site, not a water tower?

lepidopteran

I have a distant memory of a unique structure that was visible from the EB PA Turnpike somewhere in suburban Philly.

The water tower -- or whatever it was (a fuel tank?) -- was shaped like a gigantic ice cream sundae!  It even had 2 or 3 drops of "melted ice cream" streaming down the side.

If this wasn't all in my imagination, as I was no more than 5 when I last saw this, is that structure still there and with the same appearance?

You are correct. I always assumed it was a water tower. Also it was not removed until 1995. I thought much earlier.

That looks...  very normal.

It's the location of it plus the shade of blue and the hospital. Plus graces the start of SH 275 from SH 87.
