The shields are more or less the same in each country, with the font and shade of green slightly differing between countries.
However the E-road system is not signed consistently across Europe. Some countries use it as their primary system (Belgium, Denmark, Norway & Sweden), but most countries use them only as a secondary system. For example in Germany they are only posted on distance signs, not on the guide signs. In the UK they are not signed at all. Most other countries do sign them in some way or the other.
By far most Europeans do not use the E-system to navigate in Europe. Traffic information, detour signs, government press releases, etc always mention the national road number but almost never the E-number except in countries where they use it as the primary system.
So in Norway or Belgium, people would refer to E6 and E40, but in the Netherlands, Germany, France or Italy almost nobody uses those E-numbers.
Not to mention the whole silly expansion into Central Asia, with E-numbers now reaching the Chinese border (if they are ever signed...)
