A username on here is little more than an icon made of letters instead of symbols.  It's something you glance at for a split-second to know who's posting.  No actual interpretation necessary.

I can think of two examples where a username isn't meaningless:

1. If you're female, having your first name in your username will prevent people from using male pronouns by accident or out of ignorance.

2. Marf207 was an obvious sock of Marf, even with no posts. (207 is Maine's area code.)

Usernames also aren't meaningless for when the user either has no profile picture, or has one that's more common and not as obvious to distinguish. For example, a standard Interstate shield.

What I mean is that knowing what it's actually supposed to say isn't important.  All that matters is that the username as a whole tells your brain which user's post you're reading.  You could read my username as K. Phoger or K. P. H. something something or Kap Hog Sewer but, as long as you can relate that to what you know about me, then that's all that matters.  This is unlike reading out loud, where others have to understand the words you say, and it's unlike addressing someone by name, where you might offend him.

Annoyingly, the "Dean" part of |vdeane| always makes me thing she's a man.  I think it just recently stuck in my head, finally.

That's interesting, because -deane makes me think of Deanne, a female name (although of course in this case, it's a last name, not a first name).

Also, come to think of it, names that start with the letter v aren't usually guys names. I can't even think of that many. Victor... Vince... that's about it. Maybe a couple obvious ones I'm missing.

Also, come to think of it, I associate the letter v with female ...

How did that phrase pass your filter?

I apologize in advance if I said something stupid. If I did, it wasn't intentional.

I applaud you for not automatically recognizing that joke there as a 21-year old.  :)

Those two statements are basically opposites.

Just realized I have one of the most unambiguous usernames on this forum. Oh well, didn't need the bonus points for creativity anyway. I read "vdeane" as "V.D. Anne", which helps me remember that she is female since Anne is a woman's name.

I thought you were referring to the user I-75 at first. Then I checked your posts. No conversations with I-75. Then I tried to check I-75's profile. There are several other Interstate usernames, but no I-75...
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

I get that a lot.

I doodled the above drawing in some class about 25 years ago, and it just sort of stuck in my head. Nobody really seemed to be "squatting" that username or email address.

Well it was snowing in Detroit today and I got the hell out of the city before rush hour. First traffic backup was an accident at the Davison and I decided to get off at Caniff and Holbrook and rammed up the service drive at about 60 mph, took that all the way to McNichols, got back on I-75, then I got up to 9 Mile and there was another traffic backup so I got off the highway again and this time took John R up to 11 Mile and then back to I-75, then as I'm coming up into the Flint area I realized Google Maps was telling me to get off at the Bridgeport exit instead of I-75. Then my mom calls me and tells me you should see the traffic on I-75 north of Bridgeport I was like yeah I already know about it. The times I was on I-75 I whooped it's ass I kept punching it and getting around a bunch of traffic in the snow it was kind of fun.

It's just driving at high speeds and passing a lot of traffic. It won't work if there's traffic you'd have to take an alternate route.

Not a user in here, I'm talking about the actual highway I-75.
