We were on a small-ship cruise along the Maine coast when the entertainer for the evening sang The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.  We were doing something other than going to the program, so we were outside.  I asked one of the deck hands, "Are they allowed to sing that on a cruise?"

Haha nope. I haven't heard that song in awhile. The Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 530 feet of Lake Superior water on November 10, 1975, never forget the 29 men that lost their lives that day.

It's often played on the radio close to the anniversary or used as background when the story is told..

What is Lake Inferior like compared to Lake Superior?

Wouldn't Lake Ontario be "Lake Inferior"? I've always assumed that Lake Superior was so-named because it's the highest of the Great Lakes.

Yes and no. The French called it that when they discovered it for that reason, but when the British later Anglicized the name from "Lac Superieur" to "Lake Superior" they were thinking about how much "superior" in size and majesty it was to all the other lakes they had encountered. Which would mean by the British explorer definition, nearly every lake on earth is "Lake Inferior". :D

The indigenous Anishinaabe name translates roughly to "Great Sea".

I go to Cane's for chicken fingers. If I want a salad, sandwich, or wings, I'll go to somewhere that specializes in those. Cane's has been very successful with their current menu so I see no need for them to change it.

Michigan Central Station is almost as old as Tiger Stadium was and is just standing there acting like I have life.

Flint1979

As far as Tiger Stadium goes it was a great place to watch a baseball game. The closeness to the playing field was pretty much unmatched. The upper deck sat right on top of the lower deck meaning that fans in the upper deck had a close view of the field. I'd say the back row in the upper deck at Tiger Stadium was closer to the field than the first row in the upper deck at Comerica Park is.

The only problem really was the posts that stood in the way like at any old ballpark of it's day. The solution, buy box seats which at the end of Tiger Stadium's life were the orange seats. I liked the way the ballpark looked with the green seats though.

Even as someone who isn't a Tigers fan I had some fun at Tiger Stadium and loved going to games there. Going to games at Old Comiskey Park was quite fun too and at that point I could say that was my teams ballpark. Tiger Stadium though was a classic, the lumber yard (Brooks Lumber) across the street was the landing spot for balls hit over the right field roof there.

Even after Tiger Stadium closed it took them 10 years before they demolished it. I can still remember the massive light towers on the roof of the stadium coming around the curve on I-75 at the Gratiot exit where I-375 is at you could see the light towers up ahead on the left. A few years after the stadium closed for the Tigers I was driving around Detroit one night and noticed that the lights were on at Tiger Stadium. I went over there and just stared at the stadium like it was the last time I was ever going to see it. It was the last time I saw it all lit up though. What a ballpark though. It opened on the same day as Fenway Park in Boston and the news of the opening was pushed aside because of the sinking of the Titanic about five days prior. The Tigers were playing on that same site as far back as 1896 though.

Nothing beats traveling southbound on I-75 looking at a slew of northbound traffic on the Friday before Memorial Day.

Flint1979

I saw a huge fire on I-75 earlier. Huge cloud of black smoke in the air ahead and then I noticed that the fire was on the highway. I couldn't get a picture of it but it was a minivan and the whole vehicle was on fire. This was on the NB side and traffic was backed up on the SB side hindering emergency vehicles from getting to the fire. NB I-75 @ MM 121.
