US-23 North will be closed until further notice at the Washtenaw/Livingston County line in Michigan, due to a semi hitting a bridge.  The bridge is closed to all traffic on 8-Mile Road.  US-23 North traffic is currently using the exit & entrance ramps to get around the damaged bridge, but traffic will be a nightmare for several months.  The bridge will have to be replaced.  Northbound lanes will be re-opened once the current structure is dismantled.  If you can avoid this area, it is highly encouraged that you do so.

US-23 is now open in both directions after demo crews spent the night tearing down the 8 Mile Road bridge over the freeway.  No word yet on how long it will take to build its replacement.

At least there are some options in Whitmore Lake to get around the road damage but it will add a good 15-20 minutes if you heading to/from Ann Arbor.  I would imagine most of the traffic is taking Whitmore Lake Road (intact section of Old US 23, there are a lot of them between Ann Arbor and Flint), might be better just to loop around on Shore Drive to 9 Mile even though it's longer.

A more famous section of 8 Mile Road follows the boundary between majority black Detroit and its white northern suburbs. However, this segment of 8 Mile Road is not connected to that one ; the road has a gap at Whitmore Lake just to the east of US 23.
