If someone has a good I-471 from Ohio, it should qualify.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Here are the 12 segments of interstates as mapped by TM that have a segment that spends under a mile in a state.  Some are just short intrastate routes.  Of course, I-95 and I-495 in DC are the same route.

Presumably any I-59 shields found in Tennessee (should be plenty) would also qualify. After all, any route that doesn't enter a state at all certainly spends less than a mile there.

I've never seen two different names on a set of state-named shields before.

And this is probably one of the only places you'll ever see it. This particular interchange is literally bisected by the Iowa/Missouri border. (Also worth noting that it's signed as Exit 114 on both sides.)

What's the story on that? It's been making the rounds here for years without an accompanying explanation.

Was it a reproduction sign or was it actually that ancient?

Not sure if this is still there or not, but this Maryland US 11 shield was in Williamsport in 2012...

Today's Challenge will be a crossover to the "road-related illustrations" crowd, as well as a reminder that this is the Daily Picture Challenge, not necessarily photo Challenge.

QuoteNovember 16, 2017
Challenge: Post drawings or other renderings of a sign together with its real-world counterpart.

The intent is for homemade renderings (hand-drawn, computer, LEGO, whatever...) rather than official signage plans. The real-world example can be Street View or a separate photograph; it doesn't have to appear in the same photo as the rendering.

Per Oct. 2016 GSV, the sign is still there.

That particular shield is a match-in-kind replacement for this supposed-replica, scroll down for commentary.  It's likely an independent or DCR install rather than a MassDOT install.

Here's one that I did back in 2013:

Actual signs: https://www.google.com/maps/@33.8011936,-84.4010704,3a,75y,99.85h,89.71t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEPR3p3tnNADqXhWU3pPhTw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It's not quite an exact replica; I made the "LEFT" exit tab only one line instead of the stupid MUTCD-standard two, and I changed the exit number from 251 to 251B to match the northbound exit number, but those were the only changes apart from some minor alignment adjustments.

I have one and it was taken from north of the river so it qualifies. I'm not too keen on the font used in the 471 shield though.

Alas, it does not qualify, as that Challenge is closed. Unless you have a drawing of this sign...then it would qualify! ;-)

I designed the old Historic Columbia River Highway shield in Photoshop for my original site. Unfortunately, the PSD for that shield is long gone, so this is the biggest version I have.

This shield was on display at the ODOT library when I took it on September 19, 2017. Very few of these shields survive in this form in the wild they were hard to read legibly at faster speeds.

"Stony" in this picture. In combination with "420", this may refer to getting stoned, but that's not relevant to this challenge.

Correct.  That was a DCR install, not MassDOT, as it's on Memorial Drive, which is a DCR "parkway" (even though it's used by regular commuters daily).
