SW Arkansas Meet?

I'm putting out feelers for a possible SW Arkansas/Texarkana area meet, probably August 2010. Possible stops would include the US 59/I-30 interchange west of Texarkana , I-49 construction south of Doddridge (with a possible dip into Louisiana), I-130 (I-49) construction along I-30, old US 67 near Texarkana.

Everything is tentative at the moment. At this time, it would be a one day meet unless more construction/more sight seeing can be arranged. I hope to spend a couple days this Spring scoping out sights.

I'd consider making a return trip to the area, as it would give me a chance to collect a bunch more Arkansas counties. Only reservation is the timing -- August in SW Arkansas would be misery central in terms of heat and humidity.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'd schedule it for late September or October.

It would be something I'd consider.  Texarkana is just under 500 miles from where I live or a long day's driving.

Yes September would be better, although August here is not much better.

September might be do-able. I'll have to check my schedule.

Yes, I don't think there is any danger of all that work being done by then. My wife was through there in August and snapped some pics. It didn't appear that a great amount of progress had been made judging on what I saw vs. what she photographed.

And she's going back through there in a couple of months.

I would consider it if I could get it in my schedule. LA would be a new state for me. Later Sept. into Oct. would be better for me because I would have accrued vacation time by then.

I would be able to make it, but I agree that September or October would be better due to the heat and humidity.

Looking at the calendar, the best dates for me would be the weekend of Sept 18, Sept 25, or October 23.

Tentatively plan is for a one day meet on Saturday, maybe half a day Sunday also if we don't get everything done.

Proposed visits so far:

-US 59/I-30 interchange west of Texarkana
-I-130 interchange
-AR 549 at US 71 near Doddridge
-I-49 Corridor in Louisiana (Mila, Hosston)
-State Line Road, downtown Texarkana (circles the Post Office)
-old US 67 near Texarkana

The best day for me would be September 25, as I already have things on the calendar for the other 2 dates.

I prefer as early in the year as possible.

And where is I-130?

And where is I-130?

Future I-130 is the AR 249 freeway from I-30 to US 71.  I doubt it will ever be signed as I-130 as I-49 progress is coming along quite well and it's likely the I-30/Future I-49 interchange won't be completed until the segment in Louisiana is finished.

Just a quick update: I am still planning on September 18th for the Texarkana Regional Roadmeet.  Exact gathering spot to be determined, but likely near US 71 at I-30. I hope to scout out a few things this Summer that may be of interest.

As of now, I am planning this as a one day gathering, but if there's enough interest we can look at a few things on Sunday.

The Texarkana/ SW Arkansas Roadmeet is about a month away (Sept 18). So far, I have one confirmed attendee and 3 possibles.

Proposed stops include:
-US 59/I-30 interchange west of Texarkana
-I-130  (Future I-49) interchange at I-30
-AR 549/I-49 construction at US 71 near Doddridge
-State Line Road, downtown Texarkana (circles the Post Office)
-old US 67 near Texarkana

-Possible tour of I-49 Corridor in Louisiana between Mila & Hosston

Meeting time will probably be around 10am near US 71 & I-30 (there's a Denny's, but I'm looking for something else)

Any questions, suggestions on what to see, contact me here.

Back on topic, I'm actually going to try and make this one.

I won't be 100% sure until after Labor Day.

I'm still on the fence for this one. I will certainly let you know closer to the date as my travel plans are firmed up. A lot depends on weather forecasts, number of vacation days available to me, and weighing the pros and cons of attending this one vs. attending one the following weekend in New York state. I pretty much know I can't do both meets, and each has advantages and disadvantages for me.

Just fill your sink with water, put a block of wood in there, and call it a boat.
