TxDOT is currently building State Loop 79 around Del Rio, Texas, I'm pretty sure it's to relieve traffic from 277/90 (Veterans Blvd), cause it is packed with traffic. It'll be a two lane road a few miles outside of Del Rio. I'll give y'all the link to the TxDOT project page thing. I'll try to see if next time I go down there I can snap some photos of the construction.

It isn't actually being administered by TxDOT--I rather wish it was because then the construction plans would have been put online at letting.

That would be nice haha ;)

Nice. Del Rio is a major junction from traffic from Laredo to the west (US83 to US277 to US90 to US285 and points west or northwest). Too bad it wasn't built as a Super-2.

They have actually built LP 79 as a super 2. I got some pics of it today.

Quick update: was in Del Rio this weekend. Loop 79 has been totally closed for the better part of the last two years. The only reason I am seeing online is for "rehabilitation work" .
Does anyone have more information on just what the heck happened here?

I don't get a Loop 79, but I do get a dead end (or a 404 error, whatever you want to call it).

It just requires a small modification of the URL, and then I got it working. The forum doesn't seem to recognize addresses that are ftp and not http.
You can copy and past the text of the link, instead of the link to forum software changes it to, or try this one:

Not enough coffee, or too much sleep apnea. Sorry.

Quick update: was in Del Rio this weekend. Loop 79 has been totally closed for the better part of the last two years. The only reason I am seeing online is for "rehabilitation work" .
Does anyone have more information on just what the heck happened here?

I found that article the other day but don't want to sign up for a newspaper subscription just to read the article.
This hasn't been proposed, and is entirely fictional, but would it be possible to connect Loop 79 with Loop 480 in Eagle Pass?

Probably the only necessary part of that would be extending Loop-480 around Elm Creek CDP to intersect US-277.
Taking a wild guess (and trusting TXDOT to never pass up potential Fed money) that Loop 79 was developed -- if not conceived -- under Port-to-Plains/HPC #38 auspices. The broad arc curvature of the ramps from NB US 277 south of town onto Loop 79 as well as the exit ramp to NB US 277/377 at that interchange north of town would seem to suggest that expediting through P-to-P traffic was a principal consideration regarding the loop's configuration.
I was thinking there could be a future possible Ports-to-Plains tie-in of some kind, like if I-27 could get that far south.

Since the planning for the future I-14 "cluster" is farther along than any plans for a southern extension of I-27 -- and one of the projected branches uses US 83 from Junction north to Eden -- it's probable that either any extension of I-27 won't get any farther south than either Midland or Sterling City unless that designation is applied to the aforementioned US 83 alignment. The P-to-P concept has been procrastinated nearly to death by now; the area backers and politicos have shifted their attention to I-14 as a substitute, and configured it to serve as a virtual "kitchen sink" for the region, with branches going just about everywhere (even though it's unlikely that all will be developed). The P-to-P will, like it has, continue to see merely "spot" projects like the Del Rio bypass.

Or you know, ask people on say a...... website dedicated to roads and freeways, for possibly a better explanation that what's todays journalism could offer?
Wondering if they will move 90 & 277 over here. Also curious why 377 extends to Del Rio but does not go to the border.
I guess TX DOT thought it was enough to have Business US-277 and TX-239 signed to the border.
But they also insist on keeping US 85 even though it could just end in Colorado
