More single lane madness with CA 146 and CA 4:

Looks like I have several hundred pictures that could go in this thread, so I'll just post the one for the longest interstate's eastern end in Boston, pretty soon after it was extended east to Logan Airport.  Taken June 26, 2005, on a side trip specifically to "re-clinch" the I-90 after its eastward extension.

Photos I post are my own unless otherwise noted.

Too many photos in this thread for slower connections.  Maybe post some links instead (like the OP did), folks?

Fair point. So, I've compromised by editing the displayed pictures to smaller thumbnails. For all of my posts, just click on any image to see the full-size version.

That's why I actually stopped with the monochrome stuff, I'll probably just link over the albums later...that thread got really slow.  But for one, two, or three here it doesn't really seem to bog it down all that much and I'm on a slower speed.

Anyways, CA 270 END at the dirt on Bodie Road:

I tried to pick one photo from each state, for as many states as I could.

The Illinois one better be a good one, and it is.  Here's the ending of two routes at the same time!

Maine, like Michigan, likes to put the "end" tag below the route shield.

Wisconsin END markers are almost always adjoining the JCT marker for the crossroad at which the pertinent route ends.

It was a complete fluke that I chose IA-83, out of the Iowa photos I have!  It's just complete coincidence!  :-o

This oddity in Bonita Springs...it becomes County Road 865 and you could go south on US 41 as well. Typically, FDOT doesn't use END banners for short state road segments with longer county roads joining them.

Texas doesn't use END banners much, but since FM774 ends directly at the terminus of SH 239, perhaps TXDOT thought this was a good idea:

Michigan prefers "ENDS":

Temporary END seems fitting to the thread - Halfway along FL84/Alligator Alley back in 1992 while extra lanes were built:

That makes it even better. :D

Now, here are some of the ends I got driving around the Twin Cities (and a bit of the surrounding area) yesterday (click for full-size):

West end of US-8 in Forest Lake

North end of US-61 in Wyoming (This one was also posted by TheHighwayMan394 earlier, I think)

West and East ends of MN-97

Lastly, the three (!!) westbound End MN-610 markers, at 2 miles, 1 mile, and on the ramp immediately before I-94

TheHighwayMan3561

The even more hilarious thing about the 610 example is that the last time I checked they just took the END tab off of the old end shield at County 81 and left the rest of the assembly in place; it's just a 610 shield with no tab of any kind above it.

Yup, it's still there as of yesterday  :

I feel like I should've helped MnDOT and broken out my socket set to help them remove the rest of the assembly :)

Some ends I took on a trip yesterday:

Iowa 7 at IA-3 between Cherokee and Aurelia

Business US-71 east of Storm Lake

The north end of Iowa 110 at IA-7 in Storm Lake...

...and its south end at US-20 a couples miles south of Schaller

Finally, the ends of Iowa's newest state highway designation, IA-471 - created last year, it is the former alignment of US-71 between IA-175 and US-20 at Early.

A different kind of "ENDS" sign. This one is along the Waterloo Spur railway at the Weber St overpass (in Waterloo, ON). I find it strange though, since neither side has any pathways for pedestrians (and people aren't supposed to be walking along here at all, I was only there for work).

The most-photographed END sign? Photo in Key West from June 2004:

(Usually, FDOT doesn't use green banners for US Routes, but it's defaced and stolen so often that the sign shop might be in a pinch.)

US 1 was back on the white END banner by 2014, I'm pretty sure this one is gone also...I'll know for sure come May:

^Buried deep in a box somewhere in my attic is a film picture of the old red US-1 sign and accompanying END tab taken not long before they swapped it out for the standard black and white design.

I must have my wife dig for it some time soon, methinks!
