14th Street Bridge Reconstruction

(1/1)

Bryant5493:
Hey y'all,

The 14th Street bridge in Atlanta is open for traffic again, giving persons living on the westside of Atlanta direct access to the heart of Midtown. The bridge was closed for fifteen months, opening four months ahead of schedule. The 17th Street ramp from I-75/85 will not open 'til late spring/early summer 2010.

Also, many smaller businesses on 14th Street lost substantial amounts of business (up to 30 to 40%) because of indirect detours and people's unfamiliarity with Atlanta's complex road system.

Here's a video of the reconstruction that videoed today. Enjoy!

gosh i cant wait til this project is done so they will that short kink out of the connector lanes.  Seen a lot of people almost hit due to inattentive drivers.

now if only they'd rebuild the westside I-20/I-285 interchange my commutes would be easier haha.

Bryant5493:
^^ Yeah, the I-20/285 interchange on the Westiside needs to be rebuilt. The back-ups are severe southbound on I-285 to 20 West, because traffic has to merge in and out of the rightmost lane, which is exit-only to 20 West. Also, those left exits need to be eliminated. The interchange needs C/D roads.

I went through the I-285/I-20 junction a half-dozen times over the weekend and I heartily agree!
