The Ghostbuster

The next PIMs for the Interstate 794 Lake Interchange Study are coming up: https://www.794lakeinterchange.wisconsindot.gov/. Like I've stated before, I hope the DOT chooses the Freeway Improvement with Right-Hand Ramps alternative.

I'm not sure this was mentioned here, but it looks as though WIDOT has released a map with their final options for design.

Looks like they have enough room to add a lane or two each way even after they make it four lanes each way. They should've just went ahead and did five lanes each way future proof it.

No they aren't doing that. It was a battle enough to get four.

The cemetery is your chokepoint. They are jamming 8 11' lanes with basically no shoulder through there, to avoid having to double-deck the highway, or to disturb or move any gravesites. A fifth through lane in each direction was a non-starter.

That makes sense then. Not too familiar with this corridor but I assumed there was a choke point somewhere.

Yea, look a bit upthread for the discussion of 'legally sealed graves' in that cemetery.

No preferred alternative selected yet, but it entails on a traffic study with or without I-794 being around.

I was hoping they'd eliminated the freeway removal option, but that will likely happen next year. The only logical option is to do the freeway improvement with right-handed ramps. The travel time and traffic increases associated with the freeway removal alternative are unacceptable to me.

Yeah looks like they are stacking the deck against the option to remove the freeway. The construction industry wins again.

It's not just the 'usual suspects' in an isolated city center government at work here, rather the entire metro area and statewide.  The 'classic' city-suburb divide that is soooo 'last century'.

What exactly are you trying to say?

A video on the I-794 Lake Interchange Study public involvement meeting.

Probable cost of each alternative-
Replace in kind: $425M-$575M with 2-4 years of construction
Freeway removal: $850M-$1.25B with 4-6 years of construction
Freeway improvement with right-hand ramps at Jackson/Van Buren: $725M-$1B with 2-4 years of construction
Freeway improvement with left-hand ramps at Jackson/Van Buren: $675M-$900M with 2-4 years of construction

I find it dubious that removing the freeway would take longer and cost more than replacing it as is.  Smells like they're sandbagging the removal alternative.
"That's just like... your opinion, man."
