Stumbled upon this corridor project earlier this morning.

The Canadian and New Brunswick governments have a commitment to upgrade the remaining segments of NB 1 to freeway by 2014.  The main project website mentions this, as well as rehabilitation and maintenance of the existing NB 1 freeway segments, will be done via a public-private partnership, but there's no mention of any additional tolling besides what already exists at the St. John Harbour.  The PPP for "the operation and maintenance of existing sections of Route 1 will be transferred to a successful proponent for a 30-year period, starting June 2011."

Amongst the specifics that have been mentioned or suggested thus far:

- Between St. Stephen and St. George, new interchanges will be at the eastern NB 127 junction ("Exit 39"), NB 760 at Bethel, at Manor Rd in St. George.  This segment will be a mix of existing and new alignment.

- East of St. George[/url], a new interchange will be built at existing NB 1 east of Pennfield Station.  This segment will largely be on new alignment, from the existing NB 176/778/785 interchange (Exit 60) to the start of the existing freeway near NB 780.

- Reconstruction/upgrade of the NB 1/NB 7 interchange into a semi-directional interchange (eliminating the loop from eastbound 1 to northbound 7).

- Reconstruction/upgrade of the One Mile House Interchange (Exit 125).

- Interchange improvements and widening to 6-lanes between Exit 129 (NB 100) and Exit 137 (NB 111).

The recently opened freeway segment around St. Stephen and the soon-to-open new border crossing between St. Stephen, NB and Calais, ME (which I mentioned in an earlier thread) also tie into this overall corridor program.
