Looking ahead...Routes numbered 477 and 479 are going to be tough ones to find. Kentucky seems to be the most logical place to get those.
For a while, I thought there was an I-477 out there somewhere, but was then surprised at how few 3di I-77 have for a pretty long interstate.

For me it will be quite hard to tackle the 80s and 90s, since for some of the numbers there are no roads in Spain for that number. In fact, I cannot think of any road numbered 87 (I've just found an 85, or more precisely, 085). However I still have to check provincial roads in Caceres (Extremadura, Western Spain), as they seem to be numbered sequentially and they run into three digits.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Lévignac has a D87. Google Maps says it's about 4½ hours from you.

Louisiana has 477 and 479, both near Natchitoches.

By coincidence, I had planned to pass through that area last week, on a US 84 clinch tour ending in west Texas. That got postponed, for obvious reasons.

And currently impossible to reach for me. As I'm confined to my province.

Doing more research I may have found a way to get that elusive 18. Forest Roads, in my province prefixed HF. While so far I haven't found a HF18 (there should be one, since they appear to be sequentially numbered and there's a HF29), the system has given me a 16 that both I remember I've been on and is currently numbered as such.

The leapfrogging goes on.

My lowest un-driven route number is now 473. This after some travels in Louisiana and Mississippi in the last few days, where I found two routes I needed in a parish only one over from where I was heading anyway, and a bunch of signed (blue pentagons) 4xx county routes in northeastern MS.

If Rothman is going to keep updating the aggregate list, I suppose I should note my lowest is now 265 instead of 245.

Has been so since September 2019, but I haven't paid this thread mind since I first posted in it.

Of some interest might also be the full matrix of what I've got (for numbers under 1000):

Caveat is that this only considers routes currently in active or preview systems on the TravelMapping site. Several holes in here would be filled if Texas FMs and/or unsigned routes in CT counted, but they don't (yet, for the former).
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

Oscar will not be denied, even if it means driving around the rural South finding dinky 4xx county routes. :D

The way this works is you figure out your lowest number overall -- the lowest you haven't been on no matter what system you're counting.  It's by number, rather than by system.  You can see other people's lists in the thread to get the gist.

We know it's at least 2, since he has implicitly said he has been on US 1.

I have been on US 1, in multiple states as well.

I guess that means that my lowest number would 13 if you don't count systems lower than provincial/state level.

If you count everything, then it'll be 21.

I did a search, but didn't find anything.  (I'm sure it's probably out there.)  What's the lowest number that doesn't exist anywhere in the U.S.? (I guess we can include other regions as well.  I'm just thinking what's the lowest that you CAN'T go on.)

In here, you can consider whichever systems you want.  Other people may handle what they think a numbered road is differently, but you do whatever you want.

Just I need a single number to add you to the list.

Given Texas or Kentucky, I'd imagine it's very, very high (in the thousands).

I think I'll be content when I hit a certain level.  Things get pretty sparse/stupid around 600.

Well, the 1-2-3 road sign challenge thread is now up to 2661.  I can't recall if there was a number we HAD to go outside the USA for or not...

DeKalb County Road 1928, as of this morning:

The sign looks less ugly, but just as generic. Unlike Street View, it was located on the opposite side of the street.

It's been an honor to find what seems to be the only 1928-numbered sign in existence. :-P

Between TX (according to Wikipedia), KY, and LA, it appears the lowest is 3542.  Any of those out there?

For what class of road?  FM-1928 hasn't existed since the sixties, and KY-1928 was decommissioned in 2018.  As far as I know, LA-1928 isn't a thing either.

I didn't realize the links on the FM wiki page includes former routes, so yeah, 1928 looks like a winner.

There's probably an North Carolina "SR 1928" somewhere, but those are tougher to find.

Are you only counting routes with shields?

I guess we can have different classifications.  Signed only.  Signed and primary only.  Primary only.  Any GD shield you can find.
