Highest Exit Sum in Your State...

Here's another Roadgeek game to give your minds an exercise:

What interchange in your state has the highest sum/number if you added the exit numbers from each roadway together?

For Example, I am pretty sure the highest sum possible in Colorado is the interchange of I-70 and I-25 in Denver

I-25's interchange with I-70 is Exit 213
I-70's interchange with I-25 is Exit 274

Adding the Exit Numbers together,

213 + 274 = 487

The Number is 487.

-  Only one exit number per route can be used (i.e. adding I-25's Exit 213 A and 213 B together or Exit 213 NB + Exit 213 SB is not allowed -- the I-25 exit is only 213)

-  You may use/add sequential exit numbers with each other or any other combination of sequential & mileage-based numbers together.

-  If you have an interchange with more than 2 roads/routes, you may add all numbers together, provided each route has it's own unique exit number and that all route connections are part of the overall interchange.

It will be likely that California or Texas will have the ultimate sum/highest total, but it will be fun to see what & where the highest numbers can be in each state.

Little Rhody's is 19. I-195 splits at I-95 and there is no exit number. The exit number for I-195 off on I-95 is 19.

Some low ones:

Massachusetts: 84. Exit 44 on I-93 and Exit 40 on I-495. (I-495 doesn't have a numbered exit when it merges with I-95 in Salisbury.)

New Hampshire: Absolutely nothing qualifies. Interstate junctions are unnumbered in New Hampshire.

Vermont: Again, nothing qualifies. I-89 and I-93 are both unnumbered at I-91, I-189 doesn't have exit numbers, and the US route and state route freeways don't connect to the Interstates or to each other.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

The winner is south of Dallas, TX:

I-35E meets I-20 at Exit 418
I-20 meets I-35E at Exit 467

418+467=885

US 89

The highest fully signed one in Utah is I-15/80 in Salt Lake City, which is 120 + 308 = 428.

US 89 is unnumbered at the I-84 junction, but if it were, it would be numbered 406. The sum there would be 87 + 406 = 493.

For my native state of Indiana it's almost certainly where the Toll Road meets I-69: 144 + 356 = 500

Looks like in Ohio, we have a 3-way interchange as the winner:

I-71/I-90/I-490 in Cleveland:

I-71 Exit 247 +
I-90 Exit 170 +
I-490 Exit 1 =
                      418

WR of USA

Connecticut: The interchange between I-91 and I-84 in Hartford. I-84's exit 51 + I-91's exit 32 equals 83.
Traffic? No problem, enjoy the scenery!

Long live the lovely Sagamore and Bourne bridges and their welcoming traffic bottlenecks for the tourists!

The exit to I-10 from I-69 is number 132.  That plus I-10's 770 makes 902.

I didn't know I-69 had exit numbers, but I checked Street View and saw that it does.  Google Maps doesn't have them labeled, but the tabs are on the signs (at least at I-10).

132 miles from that point along the existing road is on the south side of Victoria.

Illinois's is I-57 & I-80.  151+345=496.

Georgia's champion is the northern split of I-75 (251) and I-85 (85) with a total of 336.

The only other one over 300 is I-75/85 (247) and I-20 (57). (I-85 northbound has no exit to I-75 south at the southern merge, so there's no eligible number there.)

For Arkansas...

I-40 meets I-30.

153 + 143 = 296.
I take pictures of road signs, that's about it.

General rule of thumb: Just stay in the "Traffic Control" section of the forum and you'll be fine.

Missouri's is/may be currently I-44 at I-55.

207 (on I-55) +290 (on I-44) =497

If the I-44 interchange at I-70 is ever completed, this interchange will take over - or depending how one counts the WB exit to Madison Street, it may already be the highest.

249 (on I-70) + 292 (assumed for I-44) = 541

Hawaii's highest sum is at H-201's eastern junction (4) with H-1 (19) = 23.

Alaska doesn't do exit numbers, except for one freeway in Fairbanks that doesn't connect to any other freeways.

I think California's is in Redding, at the interchange of I-5 (678) and CA 44 (2) = 680. The I-5 interchange with CA 299 would be higher, except 299's exit numbering only starts east of I-5, with no number on 299 for its interchange with I-5. Similar situation with the US 101/CA 299 interchange, where US 101 has a numbered exit (716) but CA 299's exits onto US 101 are unnumbered.

I think in New York, if you allow that the Thruway interchange is part of the Exit 131 complex from NY 17, then that would be the winner. Adding the Thruway's exit number for NY 17, which is Exit 16, you get 147.

(And if you also add in the Woodbury toll barrier, which is located within the interchange, and for toll collection purposes is designated Exit 15, then you get 162.)

Because of how the Thruway interrupts the exit sequences of both I-87 and I-90, there's really no other competitive option in the state. I-495 gets up to Exit 71, but nothing intersects it that far east (and even if it did, it would only be able to add a handful of exits to the sum total).

Minnesota's is 349 at I-94 (242) and I-35 (107) in St. Paul.

2. I-94 (249) at I-494/694 (58) = 307
3. US 10 (236) at I-35W (30) = 266
4. I-94 (233) at I-35W (16) = 249
5. I-94 (216) at I-494/694 (27) = 243

Nevada currently only has 6 locations where two freeways with numbered exits intersect. Not all interchange locations are fully finished with all possible freeway-to-freeway numbered exit ramps completed.

129 = 91 (on US 95) + 38 (on CC 215) *
118 = 42 (on I-15) + 76 (on I-515/US 95)
103 = 52 (on I-15) + 51 (on CC 215) **
83 = 15 (on I-80) + 68 (on I-580/US 395)
62 = 61 (on I-515/US 95) + 1 (on I-215)
46 = 34 (on I-15) + 12 (on I-215/CC 215)

*This junction does not currently have ramps in all directions, but the exit numbers are established for both highways.
**The exit number for CC 215 shown here is an estimate; this section of 215 is not yet constructed as a freeway. Different sources indicate slightly different mileages.

Pennsylvania's largest sum is because of the way the Turnpike's and I-76's exit numbers are handled. The roads are one and the same for 326 miles until Valley Forge, after which both I-76 on the Schuylkill Expressway and I-276 on the Turnpike continue the exit numbers up to 351 and 358, respectively. Valley Forge is thus both Exit 326 of I-76 and Exit 326 of I-276, for a sum of 652. Quite a big number for state only about 300 miles across.

The next biggest seems to be I-80 (Exit 260) and I-81 (Exit 151), which make a sum of 411.

Not necessarily. Most states have interstates that start and stop all over the place and don't necessarily get maximum mileage of the size of the state.
Mileage-based exit numbering implies the existence of mileage-cringe exit numbering.

Pa's is at the Junction Of I-81 Exit 194 and I-476  Exit 131  near Scranton  for a total of 325. It could possibly !-76   and I-95 In Phila  but I dont think there is a direct connection between them
