Matt was able to get things in place, and the new design is now live. There are a number of things we have to go through still and change, like updating old links to new links in additional to dealing with the 2,000 or so old html pages.
The old html will remain in the previous template until we can get to all of those pages and convert them.

Hey Alex...

I may have forgotten to answer your question that you asked some time ago, but you definitely DO have my permission to use whatever photos of mine it was that you wanted to use. Glad to be able to help.

Greatly appreciate it HB!

I did ask last year about using some of your photos for Interstate-Guide updates, and you graciously allowed me to use them. Thanks again for that as well.

As noted, please send me an email with the changes I need to make on California Highways (my pages), and I'll get them made during the next round of updates (likely Presidents Day weekend). This would include the high-level links to other states in the AARoads family, as well as links to individual california highway pages and areas (business routes, high priority corridors, etc.). As always: faigin -at cahighways.org

Will get you an interim list. California will require a lot of work to switch over, as there are over 700 pages still in html.

The url for the CA index will remain aaroads.com/california/
All of the other states are now also just aaroads.com/state-name/, where dashes take places of spaces for states like new-jersey

That was it. I couldn't remember.

Posted photos from the newest section of Wekiva Parkway and the Mt. Dora Connector in central Florida. Both opened this past Saturday.

SR 429 North
SR 429 South
SR 453

We also drove the new westbound lanes of SR 414, which elevate across Keller Road and Maitland Summit Boulevard now.

Updated both guides for SR 528 / Beachline Expressway, showing the completed Innovation Way / Sunbridge Parkway interchange. Drove SR 528 east through the Express Lanes project as well, which substantially changes the look of the freeway between I-4 and Florida's Turnpike.

I'm finally getting around to going through my notes and starting to edit files for the next round of updates. Please remember to provide me with any updated links to California Highways on AAroads (not that I'm looking forward to marching through everything to update them, but that's a fact of life in the web-world).

Thanks,

I have not converted a lot thus far within the California section to the new format. But as promised here is what has changed.
For Interstates, the new url's are:

I separated the Business Loop entries for I-5 into separate pages:

For U.S. Highways, a few updates so far:

Some state route conversions:

I also split the miscellaneous county route pages into separate guides for each highway last fall. Those are listed under the County Roads tab on the California Highways index page.

cahwyguy

I've edited all of these updates into the source files for my pages; when I do the June uploads they will be there. Please let me know of future changes for the subsequent round of updates, plus any county page references I might have to fix. I also noticed you got rid of the High Priority Corridor pages (or at least I couldn't find them anymore), so those links, as I find them, are going away.

I finished converting the last of the main California Interstate pages on AARoads. Added a few new photos to some, but mostly overhauled the text and updated the write-ups accordingly.

As I did with the previous round of changes, for the url swap, change california/i-010_ca.html to guides/i-010-ca/ california/i-280_ca.html to guides/i-280-ca/, etc.

I revamped/updated the photo guides for
I-238
I-780
I-980

For Interstate 210, I separated out the two Play on the Freeway Day event photos into a gallery on a separate page.

Created new entries for three of the decommissioned Interstates (I-480 was previously done, but not linked anywhere as far as I could find): 180, 480 and 880 in Sacramento

I rewrote the overly long Business Loop I-80 Sacramento page and separated out some of the info for California 51 and hidden I-305 onto separate pages.

Also updated California 275 with several photos Andy took in 2013 while walking around Downtown Sacramento.

California State Route guides moved to new url's include:
218, 219, 220, Former 225, 230, 232, 239, Former 252, 266

Yes, we retired those pages several years ago, as they were woefully out of date and were not going to be updated anymore.

Some error along I-95 in Johnston County North Carolina was found;

Quote"Traveling northeast toward the community of Four Oaks and Exit 87. What was a split-diamond interchange with Hockaday Road (SR 1162) / Main Street and Keen Road (SR 1178) was modified into a conventional diamond interchange in 2006."

I saw the abandonment of the old ramps from the split-diamond interchange at Hockaday (Mill) Road as far back as 1999.

Is there a timetable for when the three missing states (AK, MN, OK, plus Puerto Rico) will be included?

I updated every Texas page on Interstate-Guide with photos taken from our trip across the Lone Star State earlier this month, and other routes across the state that had photos in our backlog, or were otherwise out of date.

The only thing I did not post were the current end points of the IH 69 stretch from Rosenburg to Cleveland. I am debating whether or not I want to just split out the Texas stuff onto its own page, like I had done with Mississippi previously, or add a separate section below the coverage of the end points of the main I-69 stretch from Indianapolis to Port Huron. Not in a rush to do that just yet.

Also sent a number of photos covering various US Highway ends throughout Texas, and a few from New Mexico taken in June, to Dale for usends.com.

Alex

Continued converting/update more pages on Interstate Guide to take advantage of Avada's display options. Updated a number of routes across the country, with new photos posted on I-26, I-526, I-95, I-195 in Florida, I-140 in North Carolina, etc.

Thinking of the long term direction of AARoads, with the backlog of photos never ending, I want to start making pages that primarily focus on photos, with less verbiage to have to write or update over time. I need to come up with a separate template for this, and have only attempted a couple of concepts thus far using the current guide script or some of the Avada/Wordpress options:

https://www.aaroads.com/guides/i-040-west-santa-rosa-nm/ - the guide script batches photos with the same caption, in this case, all of the ones for I-40 that have no captions. Not ideal for display, but was fast to get 71 photos in place.

https://www.aaroads.com/guides/i-040-west-moriarty-nm/ - used the Avada photo carousel to display the photos here. Had to manually paste in each URL into the Wordpress element, so not optimal without an automated script. You get three photos at a time, but still not that idea for display.

I have also used NextGen Gallery to host albums or archived photos. Just put one up for IH 10 east in Texas with nothing displayed but the date taken info -  https://www.aaroads.com/albums/nggallery/texas/i-010-tx-archive-east
Gives a thumbnail display with pagination options. The default template used across all photo albums in NextGen displays the caption below the photo. Can turn this off, or have it display in several other options.

NextGen Gallery uses a different database and file management system, so I don't envision using it to add main guide additions, as I want to keep files in one place for that. One possibility could be to try replicating this display in a new template.

Otherwise I want to consider other display options, and would love some additional ideas/suggestions.

Question; why hasn't there been anything on the proposed Walterboro, South Carolina Business Loop here?:

Got a source on the proposal for the Walterboro Business Loop? I'll add an entry for it if there is one.

There are a couple newspaper articles from there and some Walterboro city minutes that talk about an "I-95 Business Loop project".  But nowhere in anything I can find actually says SCDOT will sign anything (or even be asked to) as I-95 Business after the projects - lighting and landscaping and a lot of aesthetic stuff (no substantive road work...the route is already 4 lanes throughout).

I found no references on SCDOT's website.

The concept has been around for over 10 years now.

Hey, would anyone mind if I tried grabbing some more eastbound pics of Hernando County Road 576? There doesn't seem to be enough of them on this page.

Well at least someone still checks the main site and provides feedback.

I drove on part of CR 576 last night, from the Suncoast to US 41. Don't have any new photos to post of County Line Road, and when I last did was doing research for my old boss on his Hernando County road atlas.

CR 576 is going to eventually be four laned, so shooting it now is probably not worth even doing:

http://www.fdottampabay.com/project/378/257298-4-52-01

Additionally the east end will change with the CR 576 extension, that includes realigning County Line Road to meet it directly:

I think it is, in spite of the proposed four-laning. You've got former segment (one of which is still a public road), and you've got sharp curves replacing former turns at 90 degree angles that are still visible in some farm fields.

With the exception of converting the page for Historic U.S. 40 in California over to Wordpress, I spent the entire month of January working on Pennsylvania updates on the site.

I converted and updated 60 plus pages of old html throughout the state. Finished going through everything that I had or that Andy gave me and completed going through all the Interstates. So there's a page for everyone except for I-84 (which I most recently drove at night in 2004, and previously took back in 1996).

Today I nearly finished adding photos from on a daytrip to Gettysburg on 12/26/18 covering U.S. 30 I updated the westbound pages from PA 41 to U.S. 15 Business and created a new page for Adams County on eastbound.

Also made a new page for PA 462 (Old U.S. 30) with photos from 2010
Yesterday I finished adding more recent photos covering PA 41 and PA 82.

rickmastfan67

Alex, should mention the 'END I-579 SB' shield on your page for I-579 (last picture before the "Crosstown Boulevard - South" section) like how you did for the NB END shield. ;)

Also, I'll get around to getting you the pics of the new BGS's for the I-279/I-579 split. lol.

I switched up the captions and now the end shield is mentioned.
Among other changes, I know there are APL's on I-279 south leading to the split with I-579. Glad Andy at least covered what he did in 2010, as it gave me something to work with in redesigning all of the Pittsburgh area Interstate pages.

Yesterday I added five more photos to U.S. 30 west in Downtown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Added six more photos to U.S. 30 east in Downtown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Created pages for PA 34, PA 97 and PA 134 mostly with photos from Gettysburg, but also Andy covered apart of PA 97 from Erie south to I-90 in 2010.
Created page for U.S. 15 Business at Gettysburg, mostly with photos I took while walking all over the borough in 2005, but also some from 2018.
Today I added 16 photos for PA 116 in Gettysburg.

Do you allow guides for really short routes? I asked Alps for his site a few years ago, and he said he wasn't updating at the time. MA 108 is less than a mile long (it continues as NH 108 for quite a long while though), and I've walked it.
