Highways You Have Clinched
« on: June 27, 2009, 04:33:34 PM »

VA: I-195, I-295, I-395, I-495, I-264, I-464, I-564, I-664
DC: I-295, I-395, I-495, I-695

CA: none (2 miles short of I-105)

Single State:
DC: I-66, I-95 (heh)
MD: I-95
PA: I-83

I have not clinched any US highways, whole or single-state.

Virginia State Highways:
VA 2, VA 27, VA 28, VA 36, VA 54, VA 54Y, VA 73, VA 76, VA 106, VA 109, VA 110, VA 120, VA 123, VA 124, VA 132Y, VA 144, VA 145, VA 146, VA 147, VA 150, VA 156, VA 157, VA 161, VA 195, VA 197, VA 199, VA 205Y, VA 206, VA 207, VA 208, VA 212, VA 218, VA 228, VA 233, VA 234, VA 235, VA 236, VA 237, VA 239, VA 242, VA 243, VA 244, VA 246, VA 271, VA 288, VA 296, VA 298, VA 299, VA 300, VA 300Y, VA 315 (by walking), VA 318 (by walking), VA 319, VA 321, VA 326, VA 353 (by walking/biking), VA 356, VA 357, VA 359, VA 366 (I think), VA 380, VA 383, VA 396, VA 399 (by walking), VA 400, VA 895, VA 90004 (Dulles Access Rd)

I've been near and seen the endpoints of VA 310, VA 329, and VA 339, but they are not drivable. Technically, neither is VA 318, but I have technically traversed it from end to end. The ones I clinched by walking or biking were clinched when I lived in Richmond but did not have a car.

I need to update my map; I-464 is missing and I need to add some US highways.

My clinched Interstates: https://www.aaroads.com/clinched/anitzman.html and http://cmap.m-plex.com/user/aaroads/ (missing my I-73 clinch; I also have to go back an update my future Interstate mileage now that you can add it!)

My counties: http://www.mob-rule.com/cgi-bin/makeuser.cgi?user=aaroads (none new this year :( )

I have an atlas that shows every road I've driven or ridden upon. At some point I may log all of the U.S. and state highway segments per state that have been clinched. I can say that I have been on every Interstate, U.S., State, and County highway in Baldwin County, AL, and Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Florida. I've done every segment of State, U.S., and Interstate in Cecil County, Maryland and New Castle County, Delaware as well.

interstates H1, H2, H3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, 30, 37, 39, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 49, 55, 57, 59, 66, 68, 70, 71, 75, 76E, 76W, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84E, 84W, 86E, 86W, 87, 88E, 88W, 89, 90, 91, 93, 95, 96, 97, and various and sundry three-digit ones.

US routes are significantly harder to clinch, because of the many alignments they take.  I believe I've found most of US 2E, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 26, 28, 32, 38, 44, 46, 48, 50, 53, 56, 57, 83, 87, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97, 98, 99, 101, 104, 106, 130, 138, 163, 185, 191, 206, 240, 260, 285, 295, 299, 302, 350, 395, 399, 410, 420, 466, 491, 530, 541, 630, 650, 666, 730.

as for clinching highways in one burst ... the longest I've done is I-40 on three hours of sleep.  I never left the freeway for more than about a mile to pull over.  I did 2000 miles (before Asheville, NC, all the way to Kingman, AZ) without stopping for anything more than gas.

the longest highway I've clinched without stopping, for gas, food, weakness, death, or any other failures of the system, is I-30.  My car held 367 miles of gas, and so did I.

I've done the 307 miles of I-5 in Oregon many a time without stop ... because who wants to stop for socialism and the deprivation of the right to pump one's own gas?
