Yahoo! did a piece on the complex highway numbering system.  Of course, it's all stuff we've known for years but the average person probably thinks it's neat!

I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

I think even the average person probably understood how Interstates were numbered.

I don't think so. Most people haven't even clicked on the exit tab alignment thing.

ugh.  what's with the trend of making articles into video form instead of good old fashioned readable text?

it takes a hell of a lot longer to watch the video than to read the transcript.

I noticed that too, except I think the only one with FHWA numerals was I-5, which is absolutely baffling to me.  They showed a close up of perfect I-5 shield, and put a perfect I-5 shield on the map, but then put 5 other shields on the same map with wonky fonts?  And use correct standards for the interstate shield, but for the U.S. shield use a design that you only see in US-66 gift shops?

Also, was it just me, or on the U.S. map, did they accidentally highlight CA 1 instead of US 101?  At the very least, they showed it as only being in California.

I-55 seemed to have correct numerals as well.
