Currently -11C (12F) and sunny with no clouds in the sky. There's been a lot of grey skies the past few months, so that's a nice change of pace.

Good to hear, I hope the clear skies are coming this way. It's been extremely gray here too with harsh winds. Five straight days of snow showers and flurries hasn't amounted to much on the ground because of constant blowing and drifting.

A few inches of snow fell in the Lawton area today. We still have some intermittent snow falling. It should taper off some time after midnight.

5-6 inches in the Springfield MO area. Some areas of the Arkansas River Valley and Ouachita Mountains got upwards of a foot.

At one point, there was a ski resort in the Arkansas Ozarks. Perhaps once every year or two such a place could have something to offer.

We're hanging several degrees below average for the middle of January right now.

Later this weekend when a warm front pushes winds from the South, we'll be back above average with highs topping near 80 degrees, then another (this time stronger) cold front next week will plunge us back down below average, this time well below average to the point where a couple of locations could be approaching freezing lows.  Parts of the Houston area could grind to a halt being threatened with frozen precipitation (ice/sleet) next week and lows in the 20s there, but thankfully we're too far south where we won't have worry about that.  On a personal note: Summer can't come soon enough.

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      63 high; 47 low                  73 high; 55 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  64 high; 46 low                  69 high; 50 low
LAREDO:                66 high; 47 low                  68 high; 47 low
MCALLEN:              66 high; 48 low                  72 high; 53 low
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Mid-20s and clear outside. Reasonably pleasant for a January night. Per the 6:00 news tonight, the forecast for the presidential inauguration Monday is showing an expected windchill of 6° at noon. Tuesday morning at 7:00 is expected to feel like –5°.

Marble Falls. A part of the Dogpatch USA theme park that went bankrupt in the late 1980s. A dang shame because it had some viability.

Looks like the bikers and tweakers have taken over what remains of it:
