Title: BUSINESS LOOP 344 signage errors in Azle, Texas
Post by: Brian556 on April 12, 2014, 12:27:12 AM
Usually these were signed as business routes of the parent highway, and had a hidden loop designation until 1991. There are a few other exceptions, however, such as LOOP 354 on Harry Hines in Dallas.

This is just plain wrong. It is signed BUSINESS LOOP 344. Does anybody know if it used to be signed BUSINESS SH 199?
I'm wondering if that is the case, and they failed to removed the BUSINESS plaques when the change was made.

According to the TxDOT designation history online, they don't list a Bus TX 199 separately, nor within the regular TX 199 listing.  The listing for Loop 344 shows the designation for it, but not as a change from a possible "Bus TX 199".  Not only is there the BUSINESS sign on your GSV, it's placed on the left side of the road, practically at the FM 730 intersection.  The Loop 344 arrow sign to turn off of FM 730 doesn't have BUSINESS on it, and the post is a little low and too far away past the intersection.  Also, a check of the other end shows a Loop 344 (no BUSINESS) on a small BGS where you turn off the TX 199 service road to a short overpass to cross over to the Azle business district.  And scanning the whole route in-between, there's no route reassurances at all, just a couple of speed limit signs here and there.

So I vote for sign goof, and better signage for the area overall wouldn't hurt.  Hopefully there aren't too many that are thrown off because Azle was given the BUSINESS... ;-)  (Yeah I know, bad attempt at levity I guess)
