Fort Worth: I-820 East / SH 121 expansion

TxDOT has presented plans for the I-820 East expansion project, along the east side of Fort Worth. The project runs from SH 121 in the north to I-30 in the south.

The plan;

*  1 express lane in each direction on the I-820 / SH 121 concurrency
* expansion of I-820 / SH 121 concurrency to 6 general purpose lanes in each direction
* expansion of I-820 between SH121 and I-30 to 5 general purpose lanes in each direction

There will be 21 lanes under the Hurst Boulevard overpass, plus 3 frontage road lanes on either side. That makes a cross-section of 27 lanes.

The connections on the southwest side of IH 820/SH121 including the direct connection ramps to Trinity Boulevard (Chris's last screenshot) are interesting.

The first phase of the project is estimated at $191 million and scheduled for bidding and award in December 2017.

However, I don't think the full buildout is funded. Since the entire IH 820 corridor in east Fort Worth is now the #2 regional priority megaproject, I'm thinking that funding for all the improvements in the schematics will happen relatively soon (i.e. within a couple years)

Bids were opened this week and low bid for phase 1 is $173.7 million, 7.5% below the estimate.
