Title: Awesome old Dallas US Highway sign cutout pic
Post by: austrini on May 25, 2009, 07:26:32 PM
I found this at the book store today:

(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.static.flickr.com%2F3352%2F3564847894_af2355616e.jpg&hash=6991fd1c232c7ca0dfb9b7c99e548ac4e0d3b86c)

It is dated 1965, and was taken on Commerce Street in downtown Dallas. This would double as the first eastbound US 175 shield. US 77 would be immediately behind the photographer. There are no more US highways routed on surface streets downtown any longer.

Full size is located here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fatguyinalittlecoat/3564847894/sizes/o/).

I love seeing pictures of cutout shields. Makes me want to go back in time to see them in the field for myself.

that's extra interesting because it looks like the 175 is in Series C.  That's the only time I've seen a round-font 20x20 Texas/US shield with a number that wasn't in D.  The two-digit ones had 7 1/2" numbers in D, and the three digit ones had 6 1/2" high... except this one.
